Default Ice Cream Scoop Addiction

When relatives come to visit in the summer, I make a big deal about
ice cream. That's the short story. Over time, I have been searching
for appropriate fountain dishes and glasses. This year I found some
cute bowls and nearly cry for happy when I found traditional ice
cream float glasses to use for ice cream sodas (the fountain glasses
with the metal base and coke-glass inserts). I bought one of those
kits with the freezer stone for mix-ins. Strangely I've never sought
out an ice cream scoop though.

At Crate and Barrel a couple of weeks ago I ran across a colorful
Zyliss ice cream scoop and bought it. When I tried it at home, I fell
in love. It made the most beautiful round ice cream balls and was so
easy to use, well-balanced. I found myself eating more ice cream just
so I could use the scoop. And then... I went back last week intending
to buy just one more, but I couldn't make up my mind which color. So
I bought... one of each. It's a good thing they only had four colors.

http://tinyurl.com/h77wa

I know no one "needs" four ice cream scoops. But don't judge me- you
have to hold one ...to use one ...in order to appreciate the
intoxicating experience ;>

And it is DISHWASHER SAFE!!! I was sort of pressed to buy some Pampered
Chef from a co-worker and settled on the ice cream scoop. I needed one
actually. Oh my god, what a POS. YOu can't put it into the dishwasher
because it turns the aluminum into gray which rubs off on your hands.
Tres annoying. I knew you weren't supposed to but my family forgets.
The Crate and Barrel ones are very pretty
Goomba, who has yet to find anything by Pampered Chef to cry for happy over.

I've looked at those and wondered if they were any good. I've been making
home made ice cream lately, and a good scoop would be nice.

Now I'll have to run out and buy one or two of those.

Have to..... hehe :-)

Those dishes and fountain glasses are a nice coup!

I have a Zeroll original, like most ice cream parlors use. Also makes a
nice round ball of ice cream. I think I've had it about 35 years. I have
the polished aluminum version; bought it before they had the hardcoat
teflon version.

My Zeroll has the same problem. It must be hand-washed, but a quick wash
in hot water is all it takes. No one uses it but me, so no problem putting
it in the dishwasher accidentally. Otherwise, I love it and have had it
for years.

The hardcoat teflon version is. The polished aluminum is not.

I have a set of corn on the cob dishes that are shaped and painted
like ears of corn. It even comes with a small butter warmer that has
raised ears of corn on it (sits over a tea candle) and has a butter
brush with a handle shaped like - you guessed it - corn on the cob.

The corn holders match, of course.

But of course! That's is the fun of them.

Way back in the mists of time, I had a set of salad plates that looked
like dark green cabbage leaves and a berry bowl that looked like a
strawberry.

I won't judge your scoops if you won't judge my whisks... ;-)

I currently own 11 whisks. I am of the opinion that you cannot own too many whisks. I
use them all, and I use at least one most every day. I love my whisks. I have balloon
whisks and flat whisks and huge whisks and tiny whisks. I have a whisk small enough
to whip cream in a shot glass. The next whisk I get will be a ball bearing whisk.

LOL! We must have shopped at the same store, as I have the same cabbage
leaf salad plates, but not the berry bowl. We still use the salad plates.

I've got one of those, the black teflon coated kind. Why would you want
to put it in the dishwasher anyway? All it needs, as you say, is a quick
run under the hot tap. And it really does work.

Me, I'm a wooden spoon person. I've got a whole jar of them. One is kept
exclusively for sweet things. The others vary in size and shape; flat
bottomed (essential for making gravy), slotted, curved, flat, big, small.

I have two balloon whisks and one of those little flat ones. I must say
11 seems rather a lot!

Because I use a dishwasher and toss things in there as I finish using
them for washing up later once the machine is full. I'm not looking to
stop and handwash things when I don't have to (good knives are the
exception)

Yes! A goomba after my own heart. That's one of the reasons I
bought... er, more than one.. ice cream scoop.

And a dishwasher. My kitchen didn't have a dishwasher when I moved
in. I went through a lot of trouble & expense to get one installed
and dammit, it's going to do the dishes, not me!
