Oh pshaw, on Sun 18 Jun 2006 03:39:07p, Bubba meant to say...
> What sort of condiments and go-withs are routinely served with bratwurst? Brown mustard, catsup, onion, etc. Or, you might try a sauce like this... 2-14.5 ounce cans stewed tomatoes 2 bottles or cans beer 1 large onion, chopped 1 green pepper, chopped 1 tablespoon brown sugar Mix ingredients and bring to a simmer. Hold grilled brats in sauce until ready to eat. Do not let sauce boil. -- Wayne Boatwright @¿@¬ _____________________ |

A good side is cold potato salad. If grilled and loose on a plate they often would be served with fried sauerkraut and German potato salad. And in any case washed down with a good beer. |

I recently made a relish from chopped onions, chopped kale leaves, raw sugar, and red wine vinegar, cooked in a crockpot for several hours. Makes a dandy accompaniment to bratwurst, bockwurst, knockwurst, Polish sausage, kielbasa, or their ilk. Bob |

Red cabbage, or even coleslaw (though I'm not sure about that). If anyone asks for ketchup escort them gently off your property. -aem |

![]() Bubba wrote: > What sort of condiments and go-withs are routinely served with bratwurst? Stone-ground mustard and grilled or caramelized onions - that's it. ;-) I like baked beans and coleslaw or any summer salad, myself. Sweet corn is good. Tomatoes and basil, dressed with an oil/vinegar dressing, or cucumbers in vinegar....something cold and crisp to contrast with the hot and Brats. One of my favorite salad mixes at the moment is: cooked multi-colored tortellini, grape tomatoes (or peeled regular tomatoes, chopped into big chunks), co-jack cheese and Swiss cheese, cut into small squares, squarish chunks of green bell pepper, and stuffed green olives (medium or small, whole), with Italian oil dressing. It's just hard to quit eating this stuff! (The deli where I first bought some added whole ripe olives and baby carrots, but I don't like those, so I leave them out.) You don't need the pasta in this salad, though, when you have a big Brat bun to eat. N. |

REALLY? Sounds like I'm going to have to hit up Wienerschnitzel sometime. I pass by one regularly, but I've never stopped in. Bob |

You DO have to remember to request the kraut tho'! Polish sausage sliced in half and served on rye bread with kraut, mustard, swill cheese and dill pickle. Vaseline? A poor choice. Try K-Y jelly for better results. In Germany it is called Weinerschlider. Farmer John |

I know this is almost blasphemy for brat lovers, but I like a little ketchup on mine, along with mustard, kraut and onions. A little bit of sweetness in the background works for me with all that other vinegary, salty stuff going on. |

![]() Bubba wrote: > What sort of condiments and go-withs are routinely served with bratwurst? Try it the way German fast-food stands do it: Currywurst. Grill the bratwurst; on a plate or other container, cut into slices, pour over a warm ketchup-based sauce, and liberally sprinkle with curry powder. Serve with a roll (to sop up the sauce) or French fries, the preferred side. --Stephanie pictu http://www.triebler.de/wordpress/wp-...st/meeting.jpg |
