Default Failing to learn from the mistakes of others..

I'm out of garlic. I had it in my head that I needed garlic, but I forgot
to put it on my shopping list, so naturally I didn't buy any when I went
shopping yesterday. Now I'm supposed to be cooking my dinner to bring with
me to work tonight, but *everything* needs garlic, so I've got to run out
and buy it.

Grrr.... *fume*

Oh. Ben & Jerry's Oatmeal Cookie Chunk! mmmmmm.....

All better now!

(But I still need garlic.)

<lol>

I do agree with Kili that garlic powder is handy at times like these...
;-) I just bought a big ol' 16 oz. container of it.

Ought to last me at least a year.

I feel your pain.

Did the same thing myself on Monday, extremely annoying, I know. I was
reduced to using the chopped stuff that comes in tubs - bit like having
to eat tinned food in a bomb shelter in a nuclear war - but sometimes
you just have to do it....

Yes, it was YOUR mistake from which I failed to learn. But at least I had
the ice cream to adjust my attitude. Good stuff.

While I was out getting garlic, I also bought a bunch of beets. I used the
beet greens in making gumbo z'herbes (following Sara Moulton's recipe on the
FoodTV web site). I used one of the beets in making pickled turnips (and
radishes and kohlrabi). Now I have to figure out what to do with the other
two beets and the beet stems. I'm thinking of making a gratin of the beet
stems, and making cold borscht from the beets.

I cooked a bunch of stuff yesterday: I made marjoram vinegar, pickled
veggies, gumbo z'herbes, a Mediterranean salsa, sweet & sour kale relish;
and radish greens, onions, and radishes cooked in butter with a bit of
mustard.
