D and I literally passed on the street. She was heading to work; I was on my way home. She flagged me down to say there's fish in the fridge. And lo, there was! She'd baked a salmon filet as she waited for me to get out of a meeting that ended too late. I only had to make a cole slaw and chop some tomatoes and avocado. Bless her. -- modom |

There have been posts, I think in this group, about household servants who had a clause in their contracts that they wouldn't be served lobster more than X times per Y period. I was reading a Jeff Smith book (the Frugal Gourmet) that back then, 30 and 40 pound lobsters weren't uncommon, and they were perfectly tender. Nowadays, 3 pounds is big. Anyway, under salmon, household servants also had clauses that said that they wouldn't be served salmon more than twice a day! -- Dan Abel Petaluma, California, USA |

Raw, it is very sweet. Cooked, it gets that, um, cooked cruciferous veggie smell.... Dean G. |

Raw, it is very sweet. Cooked, it gets that, > um, cooked cruciferous veggie smell.... Overcooked cabbage, yes. I cook a wedge of cabbage in a covered dish with about a 1/4" water in the micowave for about 2-1/2 minutes. It's still sweet, tender crisp, and ready to be dressed with anything from butter to balsamic vinegar. Very tasty! -- Wayne Boatwright @¿@¬ _____________________ |

Just a bit of lettuce and maybe some grated carrot to go with the tomato and avocado. Celery sticks are cool too if you want a cold salad. Artichokes, any variety of summer squash, Endive, chinese cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, baby spinach leaves raw or steamed, fresh steamed string beans... There are a number of low carb options. :-) -- Peace, Om. "My mother never saw the irony in calling me a son-of-a-bitch." -Jack Nicholson |

One of the guys on abf has these 6 sided black plates that are just GORgeous presentation. I often use my crystal plates on top of my black stovetop to photograph. -- Peace, Om. At least he doesn't get blue highlights on his food! I had to retake a bunch of photos for a cookbook last year because pork etc, doesn't look so tasty when it glows blue. I finally bought a big square white plate and a small one. Never use them, but just photograph on them. Red would have looked bad in my kitchen, otherwise .... |

It sounds interesting, I serve quite a bit of grilled salmon when the price reaches a reasonable level. I'll bet it'd go well with grilled catfish too.
