I wouldn't call raw fish and meat, kimchee, and organ meats "normal"
food...but that's just me.

I won't eat parsnips, turnips, asparagas, oysters or scallops. Pretty
much everything else is fair game, so to speak ;-)

Add okra to that list.

Boy, ain't that the truth! There's no telling what could happen in the
family if a caraway lover and a non-caraway lover wed. Pffft!

It just ain't pumpernicle without caraway seeds. The are mandatory.

Maybe that's why I don't like them. LOL!

I can't stand jelly of any kind, or jam...or pudding. It's the
texture, I think.

Other than that, I can't think of anything else I won't eat.

It would be tragic. Sleeping in separate rooms, me eating reubens and
him eating peanut butter on Wonder bread. The humanity!

inaccurately.

Milk? Yuck. I never did like that stuff, not even when I was a kid. It was years
before I realized that the belly aches and gas I suffered after drinking milk was
lactose intolerance. I can't imagine being thirsty enough that I would drink
milk.

Hot dogs! UGH, vile disgusting stuff. So is baloney. Who, in the world,
thought of this stuff? Oh, and bratwurst. Those are three of the multiple
of things I used to sit at the dining room table, for hours, because I
refused to eat them. My mom knew all my tricks, though, and blocked the dog
from the table. God......... the icky memories........

How do you eat it? I never liked steak when I was a kid. For that matter, I
didn't care much for roast beef. My parents always served beef well done. I
later discovered rare beef, which I found to be much tastier and more tender.

I am slowly getting used to turnips. I am over 50. I has taken me a long
time to get to the point where I will have a very small serving. I doubt I
have enough time left in my life to actually get to the point where I
would actually like it.

Parsnips are another story. I hated them even more than turnip until I
tried them well roasted and discovered that they are very tasty. I tried
them boiled again after that and they were just as disgusting as I had
remembered.

As for asparagus.... I have always liked that. It is one of my
favourites. I also really like scallops. When it comes to oysters, there
are different ways of having them that makes them completely different
creatures. I like smoked oysters. For those who don't like them raw or
smoked there are things like Oysters Rockerfeller that are pretty good.
Personally, I like raw oysters once in a while. They are like a tonic. I
always feel really good after eating them.

The very same thing happened to me the one time I tried oysters. I was
sick sick sick for a day and a half. I won't go near anything even
close to one now (no clams, oysters, mussels, or any other "thing" like
that)

I also have an odd reaction to crab - my entire mouth goes numb when I
eat it...not sure what's going on there so I just avoid that too

Tsk!

I've lived with IBS now since I was 12 years old.

That's 31 years. :-)

Sometimes I just eat stuff I'm not supposed to (like pizza) and just
drink 1/2 bottle of Magnesium citrate to "clear it out" in a hurry.

Works for me......

Especially when I do chinese pigout. <lol>

Give it a try. It settles the stomach and prevents those horrible, gawd
awful 10 on the Richter scale colon cramps!

Just be near a commode 1/2 to 2 hours after you drink it. <G>

Cheers!

Yes, thank you! I realized why I didn't like it, because it was overdone!
I still don't care for all the threads and tough parts, though, but my beef
has to be nearly raw or rare. Raost beef, Pot roast, UGH!

No, it's got to be near raw and bloody for me to even look at it. Very rare
steak has a nice flavor, but I don't care for the toughness.

And you get to enjoy foods you are not supposed to eat!

Ok, I don't do this, like, DAILY or anything, but once in awhile I want

Oh, God, and it *is* so painful, too. No one quite understands that unless

Cheese (can't get it down; makes me gag, since I was a baby)
Bananas
Avocados
Coffee

I used to not like mushrooms until I lived with 4 vegetarian
roommates, and the deal was we each had to cook the others a meal on
weekdays. Couldn't avoid the mushrooms, and eventually developed a
taste for them.

I absolutely loathe brussel sprouts. Really, there are no words for
just how horrid they taste to me. Beyond that, I'm not a fan of
olives, liver, beer (I know some people who would call that a food ,
and generally mushrooms. Although as far as mushrooms go, I ate at a
rather fancy restauraunt a couple of months ago and had some mushrooms
that were really quite excellent, so my dislike of mushrooms might be a
preperation issue. Also, for some reason, hard-boiled eggs are
downright stomach-churning for me. I'll cheerfully eat a plate of
scrambled eggs, but for some reason, hard-boiled is another story
entirely. Even just the smell of them is enough to make me nauseous.

Thanks for the proper spelling. My mind was out of commission when I
wrote that. I knew it was wrong, but didn't know how to correct it.

Beef tenderloin or filet mignon. I love it quite rare, and there are
no nasty parts at all. It's heavenly. Not cheap, but fantastic for a

I love brussel sprouts and yes, beer to me is food, but I would agree on the
preparation of mushrooms. I don't like them raw, but sauteed or
stuffed...........to DIE for. Hint, the more butter, the more sherry, the
mo bettah. Seriously.

I didn't like mushrooms when I was a kid. Now I love them. I never used
to like that canned cream of mushroom soup, and not liking mushrooms
didn't help that much, but one summer I was working in a camp where the
cooks made really good soup. One day they made cream of mushroom soup
and I was amazed at how good it was.

WHAT? You can't smoke that stuff! It's illegal! There is no fat and
it's not tough. It's just plain not smokable. Grilled is a Good
Thing. Smoked is a very Bad Thing.

It's without fat or any other nasties, and it's sooooo tender. Please
try it. You'll really enjoy it. I promise. Truly promise.

Heh, I don't think anyone here is so vested in steak that they
worry if you like it or not.

They are another example of foods that are bad when improperly cooked. I used to
hate them, another one of the things my mother used to overcook. I discovered that,
like spinach, when just barely cooked they are quite tasty, but when overcooked
they develop a really nasty taste. Sprouts should have a slight crunch to them.
Once they soften up too much they develop a bitter taste.

Try some good olives from a fresh <?> olive bar. There is a world of difference
between them and those you get in a can or jar.

Hard boiled is my second least least favourite egg preparation (next to omelettes),
but they are an essential ingredient to devilled eggs and egg salad.

I have one too. Just didn't think to use it. Dumb, dumb, dumb!

Coming to this thread late and not reading all the responses.

I dislike canned cream of mushroom soup. But then I don't consider it
"normal" food. -aem
