So, I put out this humming bird feeder each year to attract the little
buggers and guess what? There are two male birds doing IT next to the feeder
tit. I am shocked!!!. This is very Darwinian. There otta be a law.

Hummingbirds are territorial and that extends to your
feeders. I suspect you saw dominant male beat up and evict
another male. If you want to attract a lot of hummingbirds,
place your feeders far enough apart that the alpha male
can't "protect" all of them at once.

I've seen a video of a cane toad humping another cane toad....that was
literally a peice of flat leather in the middle of a hot Queensland
highway.

Nah, that wasn't a cane toad. All the Aussies do that <smile>

I have seen the satiracle Australian documentary "Cane Toads" more than
once. An excellent story. Seems like those horny toads would hump anything.
Remember the cocker spaniel that would mount your leg when you went to pick
up your first girl friend on your first date? There are now 4 hummingbirds
whizzing about my feeder. Two males are still behaving badly but the last
pair seem to be a hetero couple. I know what you mean about the Australians.
Just throw a pail of cold water on them to cool their ardour.
