Default Purple asparagus?

Saw these at the supermarket last night (right next to the white
asparagus). They're larger than green asparagus and purple (duh!).
Anyone try these before? I can't imagine they're actually worth the
*$6.99/lb* price.

We got purple asparagus here in West Texas. I find them a teeny bit
tenderer than the normal green, but so much depends on how they're
grown. No I don't think they are worth that price for the novelty. They
taste the same. They tint the pickle liquid pink when I pickle them.
