for sure.

I have insomnia, so I went back through Google to see if anyone had
commented on my post. It's been busier here than I thought it might
be!

It's avascular necrosis (restricted blow flow through the bones,
causing bone death). It's in the femoral head and in the hip where it
meets the femor. We had an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon
today, but he got called away for an emergency surgery, so we won't
know what the plan of action is until we see him on Tuesday.

It sounds as though Crash may have had minor breaks in both hips some
time in the past. Fortunately, he tripped over the dog, causing him to
seek treatment for the pain on one side, and it was diagnosed in the
early stages (didn't show up on x-ray, but the MRI caught it). We're
hoping that the prognosis won't be too negative. I am expecting bone
grafts, but I could be wrong. It's hard to know for sure when all you
have is limited information gleaned from the internet.

In the meantime, he's on some serious pain meds. He's using fentanyl
patches and oxycodone. He's disoriented, has slurred speech, isn't
eating, and obviously sleeps a lot. He's supposed to walk with
crutches, but he's lucky if he can shuffle his feet from one place to
another. I wish we had a wheelchair.

That's about it for now. I'll try to post another update when we know
what's going to happen. I think he's in for a very long recovery,
assuming that he does recover from this. Scary shit.

Oh, and he won't let me cancel the cook-in, so that's still on, as
Christy mentioned.

Thanks for everyone's kind thoughts,
Carol
