Default REC: Noodles Romanoff ala Joel Erlich - crockpot

We've had so many requests for crockpot recipes that I thought that I would
reshare this recipe from Joel Erlich, posted when I bemoaned the
disappearance of the boxed version thereof.

NOODLES ROMANOFF (RFC - Joel Erlich)

8 Servings

8 oz Wide Egg Noodles

2 Tbls Butter, Melted

12 oz Sour Cream

1/3 Cup Flour

1 1/2 Cups Cottage Cheese, Cream Style, Small Curd

4 Green Onions, w/Tops, Minced Fine

2 tsp Worcestershire Sauce

1 Dash Tabasco Sauce

2 tsp Garlic Salt

Cook the noodles according to package directions until just barely tender.
Rinse in cold water. Drain. Toss with the butter. Mix the sour cream and
flour in a large bowl. Stir in the cottage cheese, green onions,
Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco sauce and garlic salt. Add the noodles. Stir
thoroughly to coat. Thoroughly grease the slow cooker. Pour the noodle
mixture into the slow cooker. Cover. Cook on LOW for 4 to 6 hours. Serve
hot.

Baffling. Why can't this entire dish be done faster than you can load
the crockpot? 1: Put pot of water on to boil. 2: Stir the flour
into the butter and cook for 2 minutes over medium heat. Add the rest
of the ingredients and blend together. 3: When water comes to boil,
cook noodles. 4: Stir sauce occasionally while noodles cook. 5:
Drain the noodles and serve with sauce. -aem

What's the point of the crockpot, Pam? Why would someone do this except
to keep the noodles warm for a period of time? (I think of crockpot
cookery for that which needs low and slow.) What am I missing?
(Are you in Colorado yet? Where? How are you liking it?)

Almost sounds like something to take to a pot-luck type affair as a side
dish.

As to doing this in a crockpot, the taste, etc, is significantly different
than just tossing everything together and easting. It's more like a
casserole with all the flavors mellowed. I've done it both ways and prefer
Joel's choice of doing in it a crockpot.

As to Colorado, we're still mostly in Minnesota, but we're heading out there
tomorrow.

Pam
