As I mentioned in another thread, I always have some Fox's Ubet chocolate
syrup in the house. I don't use it often, so a jar can often last me years. But it's there. Like a security blanket. (LOL!) Anyway, I haven't bought any since probably 2002. And haven't needed to. And I still don't need to. But I noticed in the store the other day that it was now packaged in a plastic squeeze bottle. That just seems wrong to me. I looked up their website and sure enough, they switched to plastic in November 2002. I'm sorry, it just won't be the same without having to stick the spoon in and getting all chocolatey fingers....sticky messy and fun. Or trying to pour it from the jar without it running down the side. I know, I know, the plastic packaging will be infinitely neater and easier to control, but....but....what about Tradition????? I wasn't this upset when Autocrat changed the packaging on their coffee syrup, maybe because there were years when we weren't able to get it, so it wasn't as much of a fixture in my house as Ubet was. (Mom was from Brooklyn, Dad was from Providence...so I was exposed to both!) The other thing is, Autocrat coffee syrup doesn't hold up as well for me as Fox's Ubet does. The coffee flavor doesn't cut through the sweetness. Or maybe it's just that I'm used to drinking real coffee now, so the syrup just isn't coffee-enough. |
