The Yukon Gold potato was developed at the Ottawa Ontario Central
Experimental Farm in 1980. I have grown it for many years. It is ready to harvest in 60 DAYS whereas many other types require 90 days or more. In addition, it has good resistance to many potato pathogens including the dreaded potato blight. This reduces the cost of production and this variety has a superior yield. IT COSTS A HELLAVA LOT LESS TO GROW THAN OTHER STRAINS OF POTATO. In my local clip joint/ supermarket there were 10 lbs of regular white potatoes (Probably Kennebec) for sale for a mere $2.99. Ten pounds of Yukon Gold were offered for $3.99. This is nothing more than profiteering. Sure, they taste really good but you are getting screwed!!!! Try growing some yourself. Farmer John |
