extracting bay

if I put a bay leaf in a pot where I'm simmering a hamburger-helper type
meal for ten minutes, am I getting most/all of the bay seasoning? If not,
how long must the bay leaf be simmered to extract most of its healthful
compounds? Thanks.

Powdered bay leaf is readily available (Penseys - also has a terrific
bay leaf sesoning) or whizz up your own.
