Default "Oyshter"??

A local radio commercial for a oyster bar
pronounces oyster as "Oyshter", and shrimp is
pronounced as "shwimp". It is very annoying. We've
been making fun of this for years and someone
tried telling me that this is a regional
pronunciation in New Orleans? Any one know?
