Mango is related to poison ivy, the smoke emitted from burning it's wood is highly toxic, as is contact with it's sap, leaves, and the skin of the fruit. Many people develop a rash from rubbing the mango's skin on various of their body parts but the flesh of the mango is perfectly safe for them to eat. http://freshmangos.com/factsmyths.html ---= BOYCOTT FRENCH--GERMAN (belgium) =--- ---= Move UNITED NATIONS To Paris =--- Sheldon ```````````` "Life would be devoid of all meaning were it without tribulation." |

I was wondering if repotting (changing out the soil) might make it a little happier. My wife will not even try one because she had a serious case of Poison Ivy a few years ago and is afraid that trying mango might cause a reaction or a reactivation of the rashes she had then. An aside to this, or addition if you will. After you eat the meat off the pit, use the pit with a leetle bit of mango left on as a facial treatment. Rub it all over your clean face. Leave it on for 5 minutes or so. Your face will be soooooooooooooo soft. Suzan >>> Kili added; Unless you're allergic to mango and then with the itchy, red bumps all over your face, you wouldn't feel so soft! LOL kili P.S. I think Mango is related to poison oak????!!!!???? Many many people I know are allergic to it. >>to which I reponded... yes, Kili, if you are allergic to mangoes, peanuts, strawberries or anything else, don't use it as a facial treatment. DUH Sheryl, actually that's not true. Mangoes grow abundantly around here so I feel like I can be a fair source of information on this subject. For instance, my buddy Scottie can NOT touch mango with his skin. If he touches a tree, a stem or the fruit, he breaks out in a nasty rash. He does love the flavor of mango, however - to the point the man will pick them and eat them and be in bed for a day or two. Anyway, as long as he doesn't touch the fruit to his skin, i.e. eats it with a fork or drinks it, he's fine. It's something to do with the sap, from what I hear. Many people are bothered by it. I just thank God that I'm not because I love a good mango margarita! kili |

I am very allergic to mango but the allergen is in only the skin of the fruit. I can eat all the mango I want with none to little problem but I am extremely careful to eat only mangos that I prepare; every mm of skin must be carefully and deeply cut away while under running water. I learned that the hard way - the tiniest speck of skin I left one time nearly choked me and I had a rash around my mouth. The best mango I ever had was out under the hot sun of the Yucatan peninsula where it was sold still on the stem and peeled and cut into a kind of flower petals shape. It was so huge and juicy you had to eat it away from your body to let the juice run down. Back then, I didn't know yet that I was allergic to the skin but I had no problems with that particular one - it was heavenly! -- Catbird "Oh-oh, her schizo is about to phrenia" - Bob Hope |

It hadn't been watered in a long time and had been sitting there in a cold church with wierd lighting. I just trimmed it down last week and there's tons of new leaves sprouting all over. I have't had one of these plants since I was little and we always tossed them after New Year's. It should be a fun experiment. Paula |

I don't think they're all that pretty without the colored brachts and, honestly, I'm far to lazy to do that 'put it in a dark closet' routine or whatever it is that makes them produce colored brachts for next year. You have my empathy....... I used the "bar fight" excuse once myself! I lost an argument with a bungee hook. Was loading stuff at the end of a camping trip using a tarp and bungee hooks and I guess I pulled to hard on one. It was fully extended and the metal hook decided to straighten out. The thing whipped back and hit me right on the edge of the jawline! I'm damned lucky it did not hit me in the eye. :-( For the next week, I had this monster bruise on my jaw, extending over a good part of my cheek and neck. Cut the mango in half. Now take a knife and cut vertical and horizontal
cuts into the mango all the way down to the skin. You should have a cross-hatch pattern. Then turn the mango inside out by pushing the back of the mango upwards between your hands. Voila! Mango squares. And you can cut them off very close to the skin.
