Look at the Baratza. Works well, easy to change the grind if needed. I
did some research before buying it a few years back.

Reviews are great , but I'm not quite ready to drop 140 bucks for a
grinder . I think this B&D I'm using was around 40 bucks when I got it ,
I expect the same quality unit will be more than that now but not quite
that much higher .

I have had a DeLonghi burr grinder for at least 5 years. It works fine.
It is easy enough to clean out.

People who grind their coffee don't grind their meat. DUH

It makes far more sense to have the store where one buys coffee beans
to do the grinding with REAL grinders instead of those Toys R Us
grinders with fancy schmancy Italian names... Italy has never grown
even one bean. A&P has real coffee grinders.

There's no A&P here. Every grocery store with a grinder was self-serve.
If any in-store coffee grinders have survived the pandemic (most self-serve
things have been shut down), I still don't want to grind my coffee at
the store because of jackwagons who grind flavored coffee there.

Coffee tends to be much better when freshly ground. I used to use the
store grinders but had too many bags of beans ruined because someone who
used it before me had ground flavoured beans. It doesn't take much
residue to taint a whole of beans. I use my Delonghi for a medium fine
grind for drip coffee and coarse ground, but I get my espresso beans at
the corner bakery and have them grind it. They don't use theirs for
flavoured beans.

Yes, thank you. My wife enjoyed good coffee and I bought her the best
grounds from around the world and used the best equipment to brew it.
It was my treat to her.

I did some research on various forums and such and Baratza seemed to be
the best.

OK, I really know nothing about coffee. But I assume the beans last
longer than ground coffee, so using a store grinder really depends on
how soon you will consume the ground coffee, right? If you don't want
to shop often, you should grind at home, right? What time limits make
sense?

I was in a Farm Boys grocery store a couple weeks ago and wanted to
grind some coffee but the decaf I wanted was too well glued to open in
the store. I was surprised they still had a grinder for customer use
because I had not seen one anywhere else. I would not have considered
it at other stores but this one does not sell any flavoured coffees to
taint my beans.

That makes sense, although I don't know if I could distinguish between
ground-bought and recently home-ground in a blind test.

The trouble with in-store grinders is that if the store sells flavoured
beans, they contaminate the grinder and your coffee.

Even if the store only sells pure and perfect beans, it's still a risk.

When you grind your beans, there is no way to know if somebody just
walked by the grinder and farted, thus tainting your expensive beans.

Talking about that with coffee junkies is like trying to talk the most
divisive topics with opposing groups.

I grind just before brewing, collect brewers, and spent years doing my
own roasting, too, but K-cups and Maxwell House in a can are popular,
too.

Chacun à son goût is the way to go. Find a type of coffee you like,
find a prep method that makes you a cup you enjoy, then tell everyone
else to **** off.

The thing I can't figure out is why someone would bother to get beans if
they like flavoured coffee. I doubt benefits of freshly ground beans
cannot compensate for the overpowering flavouring.

Before I bought a machine that grinds and then brews, I used to buy and
grind the coffee at a particular "health-food" store that had good beans
at a reasonable price. Unfortunately, they started selling flavoured
ones so I would grind and discard a small quantity of high roast beans
to try and clean the machine. It helped but wasn't perfect. I had a
Philips grinder at home but it developed a fault and would only grind at
one degree of coarseness. The grinder attachment to my Kenwood did a
good job but always made a helluva mess.

Do the beans come as pre-flavoured beans? I thought one used
unflavoured beans and then added an Eyetalian syrup to make flavoured
coffee.

That sort of thing happens a lot. My son ran a brew pup for a few years
and he learned a lot from his brewers. In this age of craft breweries
IPAs have become very popular. However IPAs are often the result of a
bad batch of beer with a lot of hops added to hide the flaws.

I really am enjoying Trung Nguyen coffee that I got in the Vietnamese market. It's kind of a mystery coffee because nobody knows what's in it. The ingredients on the box says there's 3 ingredients; coffee, artificial coffee, and chocolate flavor. My guess is that artificial coffee is chicory. God knows what's in chocolate flavor. One of these days, the truth will come out but I'm gonna enjoy it while I can.
