Fourth of July Plans?
Today at Kroger I was able to snag two decent Boston butt roasts. Also bought two small mesh bags of petite red potatoes. The pork will be smoked and the potatoes will be turned into Steakhouse Potato Salad; a great recipe posted here several years ago. These dishes will be shared with a neighbor across the alley, not the same neighbor who brings me a plate on occasion, and a friend of hers. They will be contributing some sort of tomato dish and a dessert and some fruit and possibly wine. What's y'all's plans if any?? |

Each year, people lost fingers, eyes, etc. And pets got lost, old people got scared etc. I once walked from my house to my parents' house on New Years Eve. It felt like walking through a war zone. At the time, I had a nice black neighbor who had a "gang like" boyfriend that would visit sometimes. That night, I was in my bedroom watching tv and at midnight I heard 5 LOUD bangs right outside my building. Sounded more like gunshots than firecrackers to me. Next morning at dawn, I went outside (as usual) and right on the grass there were 5 spent 38cal shells. Arrghh! ;-) |

There have been fireworks going on all night and *every* night in my quiet town for a month now, started during the "riot" weekend, some nights it is like loud and rumbling thunder. Articles in many big city news outlets about this...it is now a "thing", apparently...on some of the Chicago neighborhood FB and other froups there are constant complaints... I really didn't plan dinner for me for today, I'm thinking an omelet with caramelized Vidalia onions and cheese (probably Sargento Baby Swiss). Tomorrow will be the usual 4th of July fare, frankfurters (Sabrett all beef) braised in kraut (Silver Floss). Everytime I see the name Silver Floss I think of a Silver Back Gorilla. About a week ago I placed an order at Amazon for a memorial stone for Jilly, 12" diameter black granite. It was at my front door this morning, probably delivered yesterday late PM. So I decided to set it in the ground. When I had to have Smitty put to sleep I had him cremated and they made a paw print for me in plaster with his name on it. There's a large Japonica bush at my front porch and he used to like to sit under it as he thought it made him invisible to strangers. I scattered his ashes under that bush. |

The only thing I changed was your choice of using shallots or snipped chives. That change only happened as one time I went to the store and not a single shallot to be had. Unbelievable! Then I spied chives and it's just as tasty and the little flecks of green look appealing scattered throughout. |
