Default Peanut butter and......

My friend was telling us about how he had been watching a morning TV
show where someone talked about toast with peanut butter and mayonnaise.
He tried it and thought it was delicious. Well, I was at his place
today and he gave me a piece of toast with peanut butter and mayonnaise.
I tried it. It was delicious.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, That's crazy but I will try it on crackers.
Hey, that's pretty good! I mentioned once that a friend makes crackers
with PB and a dab of ketchup. You could even mix the two together.

OK, tried that too. Pretty good. Now I wish I had not eaten that
banana already.

I really want to try this. I like toast, PB, and mayo.

A few questions:

What kind of bread?

Do you butter the toast before applying the other toppings?

Smooth or crunchy?

Does the PB go on the toast first with the mayo on top? Or the other
way around?

This was popular during the great depression. My guess is that the ground peanuts and the mayo was added together to make it more spreadable and that the combination probably tasted better than a peanut butter or a mayo sandwich. There's probably no point in the combination today because today's peanut butter is emmanantly spreadable and tastes better than the stuff that was around during the 30's.

So what's Dave Smith on about then? He thinks he's invented the wheel.

I like both but never together. OK...I'll give it a try even
though I doubt I will like the combo.

I did try the peanut butter and banana thing many years ago
and that was a big fail.

I was reluctant to try and on of his dogs was sitting beside me at the
time so she would have got a treat if it tasted as bad as I expected it
to be. I was surprised to find that it is really good.

Rotten banana? PB and banana was a childhood favourite.

We eat very little mayo, a quart lasts us more than a year. We don't
eat any peanut butter, we eat toast with almond butter... it's good
drizzled with a little chocolate syrup.

I€„¢ve been told that peanut butter and mayo slathered on a roasted
Hoover hog was all the rage during the thirties. It€„¢s odd how tastes
change over time.

My son and DIL were here this afternoon and I mentioned the PB/mayo
combo. She said yes, they used to do that a lot when she was a kid.
