That would be correct but it doesn't hurt to be ever vigilant. |

Extreme weather here is so rare, I stay at home safe. No need to risk your life for being somewhere for a holiday and no job is worth risking your life just to get to work. I realize that many jobs might fire you for not showing up but thankfully, I've never had one of those. Only one time did I have a boss that threatened me if I didn't show up for work. It was a Friday afternoon and everyone looking forward to the weekend off. Boss showed up and said, "We have to work tomorrow, Saturday." Talk about last minute notice. All of us complained. He then said, "if you don't show up tomorrow, don't bother coming in on Monday." That really ****ed me off so I immediately said, "I'm NOT coming in Saturday so I won't show up on Monday either. Should I bother to come in on Tuesday?" The others agreed with me so the boss dropped it. We all took off the weekend and came in on Monday. heheh |

I've driven in nasty snow, but usually on the way home. If too bad, I'd stay home. I learned my lesson many years ago on an icy day. Minor accident, but enough to realize work is not that important. When I see on the news about a 50 car pileup, I have to wonder if 49 of them could have just stayed home. > > That really ****ed me off so I immediately said, > "I'm NOT coming in Saturday so I won't show up on > Monday either. Extreme is in the eye of the beholder, and depends on how the local government deals with snow and ice. An overnight snowfall of 6 inches is nothing here. Even if the side streets aren't plowed the main roads will be. Snowmageddon doesn't start until about 10 inches overnight. Cindy Hamilton |

So it's in the eye of the beholder but there's also a very objective limit. |

I spent a year and a half on a maintenance patrol yard and snow plowing was part of my job. I had to to drive 30 miles in the snow to get to work. Then I spent 10 years as senior equipment operator in the equipment section. I was one of the few people qualified to drive the big FWD with a V plow and a front end loader with a snow blower. The action end of the blower was 8 feet wide and 3 feet high with dual augurs. It could move along at about 5 mph and throw a ribbon of snow about 100 feet. |
