Well, UPS sent me ANOTHER email saying they'd deliver today, Wednesday, between 1:15PM and 4:15PM.

Well, that's what they told me YESTERDAY! Why should I ever believe then NOW?

What difference does it make whether you believe them or not? The package
will arrive when it arrives and it's completely beyond your control.

Is it snowing where you're at? If it is, I'd tell you that you'll get it when you get it. I sure wouldn't drive on white stuff. That's just unnatural!

I've always been amazed when I see so many people driving in
extreme weather whether for holidays or just for work.

Extreme weather here is so rare, I stay at home safe.
No need to risk your life for being somewhere for a holiday
and no job is worth risking your life just to get to work.

I realize that many jobs might fire you for not showing up but
thankfully, I've never had one of those.

Only one time did I have a boss that threatened me if I didn't
show up for work.

It was a Friday afternoon and everyone looking forward to
the weekend off. Boss showed up and said, "We have to
work tomorrow, Saturday." Talk about last minute notice.

All of us complained. He then said, "if you don't show
up tomorrow, don't bother coming in on Monday."

That really ****ed me off so I immediately said,
"I'm NOT coming in Saturday so I won't show up on
Monday either. Should I bother to come in on Tuesday?"

The others agreed with me so the boss dropped it.
We all took off the weekend and came in on Monday. heheh

I've driven in nasty snow, but usually on the way home. If too bad, I'd
stay home. I learned my lesson many years ago on an icy day. Minor
accident, but enough to realize work is not that important.

When I see on the news about a 50 car pileup, I have to wonder if 49 of
them could have just stayed home.

Extreme is in the eye of the beholder, and depends on how the
local government deals with snow and ice.

An overnight snowfall of 6 inches is nothing here. Even if the
side streets aren't plowed the main roads will be.

Snowmageddon doesn't start until about 10 inches overnight.

So it's in the eye of the beholder but there's also a very objective
limit.

I'm pretty sure Snowmageddon doesn't start at 10 inches in Buffalo, NY,
which is famed for large snowfalls.

After all, Snowmageddon starts at about 2 inches of snow in Georgia, so
it is in the eye of the beholder.

At some level, people just get on their snowmobile and go to work.

Ok, 10 inches is your personal limit.

Philadelphia was terrible with a couple of inches. Side streets were
never plowed so you ended up with ruts that thawed and froze every day
making them slippery as the sun wend down.

CT was good to about 12". If I could get out of my driveway I could get
anywhere. Roads were were plowed, sanded/salted as needed.

Knowing how to drive in snow helps. Going to work one day a woman was
off the road and a few feet onto the grass on the side. Police were
there waiting for a tow. Going home that nigh, same car, same driver,
off the road in another spot. People like that should stay home.

I worked for the highways department. I spent a year and a half on a
maintenance patrol yard and snow plowing was part of my job. I had to
to drive 30 miles in the snow to get to work. Then I spent 10 years as
senior equipment operator in the equipment section. I was one of the
few people qualified to drive the big FWD with a V plow and a front end
loader with a snow blower. The action end of the blower was 8 feet wide
and 3 feet high with dual augurs. It could move along at about 5 mph
and throw a ribbon of snow about 100 feet.

Buffalo is in a snow belt and 10 inches of snow. They had snowmaggedon a
few years ago when they had more than 6 feet of snow in one storm. Then
there was the Blizzard of 77. They didn't get a lot of new snow in that
one, but what they got was high winds and cold temperatures. It was so
cold that Lake Erie froze over and then the high winds drove the old
snow along the length of the lake and dumped it along the shore and a
few miles inland on both sides and to the eastern shores. There were
cottages and houses along the Ontario side of the lake that were buried
under snow drifts. Having blown so far the snow crystals had broken up
so the snow was fine and densely packed, not light and fluffy.

Out of curiosity.... was she driving an SUV. I am always amazed at the
number of Jeeps and similar SUVs that go off the snowy and icy roads.
Most drivers slow down, but the SUV drivers fool themselves into
thinking that if they can get moving without spinning their wheels they
instantly become exempt from the laws of inertia.
