![]() https://tinyurl.com/unbnl46 But, even as American tastes are changing, some questions still remain: Do adults need to drink cow's milk? Long story short, not really, experts say. And are plant-based beverages really healthier than the cow-based counterpart? Well, that depends. Milk is 'not necessary' for adults, but it's good for kids The idea that having a glass of milk with dinner is a bit outdated, but it still persists at least in the federal government. |

I use milk on cereal and for cooking. I was lactose intolerant since long before I knew there was such a think. I can't remember ever liking to drink milk. I could choke it down with chocolate, but it was still like phlegm going down my throat and left be gassy and crappy. When I decided to try almond milk a couple years ago I was in a bit of a quandary. I thought that I should try a glass of the stuff. I knew that it was not milk, but I was standing there with a glass in my hand it was filled with a substitute for something that I would never think of drinking anyway. It turned out to be okay, but that was the only glass of almond milk that I ever drank. |

I never liked milk, especially with chocolate. I use it in cooking. Mainly for mashed potatoes, mac and cheese and some candies or dessert items. But I use so little of it, I can usually get by with powdered. |

Powdered milk is barely acceptable in a pinch and only if it's mixed ahead of time and chilled . -- Snag Yes , I'm old and crochety - and armed . Get outta my woods ! |

Wine is "not necessary" for adults. Beer is "not necessary" for adults. No particular food is "necessary" for adults. We eat and drink things that we enjoy. Cindy Hamilton |

I think they wanted to debunk the old idea that a glass of milk a day is good for an adult. With wine and beer such debunking isn't necessary. |

Until the 60's, a goodly number of peeps in the UK and Western Europe had not much access to refrigeration, plentiful hot water and heating, indoor "en suite" toilets, etc....as affluence spread, all these comforts became fairly common, but as a result of war, much higher energy costs, far older building stock and simply a lower general standard of living, it took longer than here in the States... Even here, many in rural areas had no electricity, decent heating, plumbing and the like until relatively recently My folks were married for six years until they got electricity on the farm in 1940, a result of Roosevelt's REA (Rural Electrification Agency) program; until then, only a tiny portion of rural/farm folk had electrical power. Appalachia and other poor US areas (especially in the South) were still catching up in the 70's... In the rural farm area I grew up in during the 50's - 60's, many still had outhouses "back yonder"...long since disused for the most part, but a reminder of the pre - indoor toilet daze... -- Best Greg |

Should you be drinking a high calorie, high protein, beverage, that cause most people on this planet stomach problems? Probably not. OTOH, there's probably a lot of things that humans shouldn't be eating or drinking. I suppose if you're a healthy, growing, lad that can drink it with impunity, it would be okay. |

Because you rhetorically asked "Should you be drinking..." Apparently I'm not the only person here who takes you literally. Cindy Hamilton |

You can't help taking words literally but you can make an effort to learn how people use language. I suggest "Shakespeare for Dummies." In the end, it's your decision whether or not to drink a high calorie, high protein drink. I don't drink it myself because it's not in my best interest. 150 calories per 8 oz seems to be a very high calorie hit. It could be a good thing if one were starving. |

I drink soy milk. Currently I have someting called an unsweetened soy beverage. It does contain sea salt, and a thickening agent. I don't think the thickener is unhealthy(from what I've read); it's a nice drink. Nutty in flavour. |
