No, he did not commit suicide. He died from AIDS. I know because I contracted with him to do culinary demonstrations across the country for a client.

Thanks for clearing that up. For the past 20 years we've had wrong
information but now we know the truth. Had you not come along we would
have continued to perpetuate the myth.

Sheryl has also passed, sadly, not knowing the truth.

Hey, thanks for that Bill. I've been waiting 20 years for
clarification on this post. Now I can move on with my life.

I think it's been 20 years now since Google took up the Usenet archive
(from Deja?) and swore to maintain it? Instead they naturally mangled
it and renamed it 'google groups'. Hence all the stupid posts from
clueless morons.

True, but it's not as rampant as it once was. Years back it was so bad
I literally k/f'd the entire gmail domain for a while.

Yep, newsgroups was pretty much a Google afterthought. They set up a
way for people to access [some] newsgroups then pretty much walked away
from it. There's no money in it.

Yep. I did that for a while too. There were one or to gmail users making
contributions to the group and a couple dozen idiots, or, more likely,
3 or 4 each using multiple usernames.

Yep. Google *promised* to take care of the archive and maintain it.
Well, it's never been the same since they took it over.

Except for spammers and scammers who post to it now, because their
posts will show up in google searches without any danger of being
removed. Thanks again Google <thumbs up>.

Yeah. They go to Google Groups for the first time and can't be bothered
to look at the dates on the posts they've viewing.
