Why splenda? I mean, why any sweetener?

I've never had it. My local health food store has a peanut butter machine/station. Just add peanuts. I know that the commercial peanut butter is difficult for me to digest. Very difficult. Yet I love the stuff.

Many years ago, I used to travel into the city (Sydney) to a health
food store for freshly made peanut butter, almond butter and others.
They had a machine and would make it on the spot for you. It's just so
much better than the usual supermarket bought peanut butters. It had a
short shelf life, but it never lasted long enough for that to be an
issue for me anyway.

Wifes choice. Cannot have sugar and wanted a little sweet. I think it was great with no additives.

I made walnut cashew butter last weekend. Just nuts. No salt, no sugar. It
was very good but next time Ill adjust my ratio of walnuts to cashews.

Does it taste very different to peanut butter? All the nut butters
I've tried tasted like peanut butter to me. So I'm sticking with
peanut butter for now.

That's it. It doesn't need it, it's not particularly good for you, so
why put it in everything? Here too. When I want to buy a supermarket
hot sauce, why do they all have sugar in them as a major ingredient?
When I make my own, I don't add sugar, or maybe a minimal amount. And
it tastes fine.

I had American walnuts from ALDI a week ago. They tasted old, dusty
and boring. I bet they were fine to begin with and took too long to
reach the consumer in Australia.

Well....that certainly could be. One never knows how long they were kept in
some warehouse before ALDI bought them for distribution. Not having ever
had any food from ALDI, I cant speak for their quality standards to begin
with. There are certainly other stores and brands I will not buy nuts from
because they taste odd. This is especially true for cashews. You could say
Im picky, but a significant portion of my diet is nuts.

I've had the fresh ground peanut butter and it was ok, nothing spectacular
as far as my taste buds were concerned. And that damn stirring you have to
do every single time you want to eat it. No thanks, I'll buy shelf stable
stuff with the added sugar.

Peanuts contain oil and it will separate.

I'm just not interested in making something like that when I don't eat it
every single day. Plus grinding and cleaning up a mess when I can just
grab a commercially made jar out of the cabinet and satisfy my craving
without grinding my own peanuts. Only two things I grind and that is
peppercorns and whole bean coffee and they don't make a mess that I have
to take a part an appliance to clean it.

Skippy peanut butter:
"ROASTED PEANUTS, SUGAR, HYDROGENATED VEGETABLE OIL (COTTONSEED,
SOYBEAN AND RAPESEED OIL) TO PREVENT SEPARATION, SALT"

Why always that sugar? I've got a supermarket peanut butter in the
cupboard too:

"PEANUTS (100%)"

Surely, that must be available in the US too?

Smuckers sells all natural peanut butter, but still it will
separate... there are other brands of all natural nut butters too. We
don't eat peanut butter, my wife eats almond butter. The only peanut
butter I eat is Reeses.... and it's that time of the year again when I
treat myself to a bag of cups. Otherwise the 2-3 times a year I have
an urge for peanuts I buy a bag of roasted in-shell peanuts.

Because it tastes good. You really should be complaining about the
hydrogenated vegetable shortening.

Yes, it is. I've tried it and I don't want it. It doesn't taste right,
and keeping it in the fridge (because it will go rancid in the pantry) and
mixing in the oil when it's cold is annoying.

I guess you just skimmed over my post about 'commercially made.' Of course,
if it's commercially made peanut it's going to have sugar in it. It doesn't
bother me that sugar was added when grinding and creaming the peanuts. For
those who are bothered by this they are free to make their own spread.

I hope I sufficiently made that clear.

Of course it is, twit. Some of us choose to buy the peanut butter with all

Reese's Peanut Butter, Creamy:
"Roasted Peanuts Sugar Peanut Oil, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil
(Contains Rapeseed, Cottonseed, and Soybean Oils), Salt, Molasses,
Monoglycerides and Cornstarch."

And there's that sugar again. I'm starting to think there's a
conspiracy going on to make more Americans obese and diabetic.

But I'm on a sugar high at the moment.

That's the problem. All y'all are so used to everything having added
sugar, you think it tastes wrong when you don't get your pacifier.

I've not tried the Reese's brand of peanut butter but I do like their peanut
butter cups. Are you saying it's better since you shared the ingredient list
with the group? Is that an endorsement?

So you're already so conditioned that you now "need" the additives.
That's sad but the food industry loves ya!

You act as if "commercially made" means "sugar added". And maybe it
does. In the US!

Probably at the health food stores ... for 5 times the price.

If we're going to eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, what
difference does a little sugar in the peanut butter make? There's
enough carbs in the jelly and bread to kill a pancreas.

Big brands like Jif, Skippy, and Peter Pan generally add a trivial 1 or 2 grams of sugar to the 1 or 2 grams that occur naturally in the peanuts.

No matter what you do, druce will always find or invent something he
can whine about.

It's got added sugar. You'll love it!
