The popular grilled chicken back in the old days was half a chicken grilled over kiawe (mesquite) wood and basted with a secret sauce. My guess is that the secret sauce was simply salt water. Ha ha. The kiawe grilled "huli-huli" chicken was sold at fund raisers and it was a special treat. These days, with Costco chicken being sold for 5 bucks, selling half a chicken for 8 bucks is no longer economically viable. |
