Default KFC chicken; not a fan

I went to KFC yesterday for their 2 piece Tuesday special. I have been eating low salt, and I found their chicken to be far too salty. In fact all I tasted was salt, I did not taste any of their herbs and spices. It's always like that whenever I go there, and I only go there if someone I'm with wants to go. I like their fries though; they're not bad and yesterday they were pretty fresh.

Um. It's fast food. Of course it's going to be really salty. Most restaurant
food is.

I just think that KFC is beyond normal fast food salty. The meat however was nice and tender and juicy.

I'll have to take your word for it. I'm not all that fond of fried chicken,
and we've got a couple of local places that are much better than the last
KFC I recall eating.

Don't know if they still offer it but Hardee's used to sell an
8-piece chicken only meal and I always liked it better than KFC.

I've been seeing television ads for Cheetos-crusted fried chicken
sandwiches from KFC. Talk about salty! Who wouldn't want salty orange
cheese powder crap on their chicken? (In case anyone missed it, that was
me being facetious.)

Umm, 'fast food' need not be salty.

But it is, because that's what their customers want. Salt, sugar, and
fat. The Holy Trinity of addictive food.

Most all restaurant food is overly salty... salt is a cheap
preservative... retards bacterial growth.

Depends on your definition of 'fast food' and location too, I guess.

Not all food that is fast is "fast food" as we've been discussing it.
We started off with McDonald's, not a noodle cart in an Asian city.
The same "salt, sugar, and fat" applies to all of the major U.S.
fast food chains, and a fair few that aren't chains.

I had some a couple of years ago, it's nowhere near as good as it was
years ago and yes, drip fat was one of the problems.

I just answered this and then lost the message before I could
post it...dammit.

I'll say again then:

You must eat low sodium meals if salt is all you can taste. I can
taste the spicing and I usually even salt the chicken when
eating.

It's been many years since I've eaten there but it's time to go
again.

That last time I had 2 identical coupons:
For $2.99, get a thigh, a drumstick, one small side and a
biscuit. They let me use both coupons so I came home with 2
thighs, 2 drums, one small coleslaw, one small mashed
potatoes/gravy and 2 biscuits. Enough for one good lunch plus a
snack later.

The chicken was "original recipe" and it was a feast for a king.
So tasty.

I can't say it ever gave me severe indigestion, but it goes through me

In Australia, KFC (these days) seems to be chicken bones coated in a
flour coasting of some kind. It's a mystery to me how or why people
enjoy KFC here.

I once disected a few of my daughter's early McD's chicken nuggets. Not
a piece of chicken to be found.

It wasn't till later, when KFC started McD's-style take-outs, that I
tasted a "nugget" w/, real chicken pieces. Then, real chicken
"nuggets" began appearing.

I given up McD's, completely. Won't even let a friend buy me
burgers/fries from there.

Chicken nuggets have had a great run since it was introduced in 1983. It was an introduction, for a lot of kids, to eating meat. Very shortly, it will play another important role, introducing kids to eating vegan or cultured meat i.e., "clean" meat.

I've been to KFC twice in about 5 years, only because everyone else in
the car wanted it. In future I'll just go hungry for a while if the
situation comes up again.

eating low salt, and I found their chicken to be far too salty. In fact all
I tasted was salt, I did not taste any of their herbs and spices. It's
always like that whenever I go there, and I only go there if someone I'm
with wants to go. I like their fries though; they're not bad and yesterday
they were pretty fresh.

I had it once or twice as a kid. My mom claims that I used to love fried
chicken. I don't remember ever loving it.

We had a KFC within a block of our house. So we had it sometimes during the
summer. The neighbors would sit around drinking, and at some point, the men
would walk up there and get some buckets.

I do remember liking the mashed potatoes. They came with gravy. We never had
gravy with our mashed potatoes at home unless my mom cooked a turkey and
that was rarely.

Not sure if anyone mentioned it, but from what I understand, the chicken
is brined, which would account for the saltiness. They have changed the
recipe and cooking process from what it was like 30-40 years ago, when the
Colonel was still alive. I have a memory of that chicken flavor, but
haven't found them to have that flavor anymore.

I do believe that would account for it, barbie gee. A 40 year
difference and a bunch of franchise operations. Can't paint them all
with one brush.

I doubt I've ever tasted the *original* recipe seasonings for KFC fried
chicken. Then again, it's been at least 25 years since I went to KFC
and ordered that 2 piece meal deal. I ordered mine with mashed
potatoes, gravy and a biscuit. Not french fries. The chicken was salty,
sure. I thought that's what KFC pressure-fried chicken was supposed to
taste like.

I'm not interested in going to KFC. I bake some really nice chicken.
Crispy, not overly salted. Not brined, either. It's all in the seasonings.

Lightly salted, would you say?

Why answer then?

Again, why answer then?

I never tried KFC, however many years ago as a teen I spent most of a
summer working in the main kitchen of Chicken Delight, located in
Brooklyn's Fort Greene Market.... what a disgusting operation, I
haven't eaten any fast food chicken since.
I don't cook chicken often, maybe twice a year. I buy Oven Stuffer
Roasters, sometims I sroast the chicken whole but usually I cut it
into eighths, and marinate it in the fridge over night in bottled
Italian dressing in as zip-loc and then bake it... usually in the fall
with winter squash. I don't like breaded chicken because only the
breading gets golden brown and crispy but the skin is practically raw.

What's clueless about it? I said I doubt I've ever tasted the way it
was originally made. That's absolutely true.

I've eaten there, sure. I ordered a two piece dinner like GM did. Leg
and thigh, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans and a biscuit. The
chicken tasted salty then, it would still be salty now. I don't mind salt.

I still doubt I've ever tasted the "original" KFC. Cooked in lard.
With 11 herbs and spices. And, I'm not interested in going back to try
it again.

Check the original subject line, Gary: NOT a fan.

That was what I found, taste and texture nothing like it used to be
many moons ago. Used to like it back then but wouldn't care now if I
never had it again
