Crown Royal XO

Life is too short for cheap booze.

Yesterday I went to the liquor store to replenish supplies. I usually
have on hand something from each of the food groups, bourbon, scotch,
rye, rum, vodka, gin.

I was low on bourbon and out of rye so I picked up a Makers Mark 46 as
I've liked it in the past. Then I was not sure what else to get and
considered another Crown Royal. They also have two premium versions of
it so, for a few bucks more I got the XO.

My son came over for a drink yesterday so I opened the bottle for us to
try. Wow, this is smooooooooth drinking. Well worth the few extra
bucks. If you want to give yourself a treat, give it a try.

I've also experimented with ice. A bit of a gimmick, but it does make a
little difference. You can buy molds to make ice balls. I have one
that makes four but bought another that makes two balls, each 2.3", and
clear ice. The idea is that the clear ball will melt slower and let the
flavor open up but not dilute. If nothing else, is looks good in a nice
glass.

My son never drank good liquor itself, mostly vodka in juice kind of
things so it has been fun experimenting with him. We've tried a handful
of different gins with tonic, now a couple of bourbon and rye.

I can handle anything but the scotch.

I can handle anything but the bourbon, but I keep trying every couple
of years. One day, I'll like it.

I'll take the vodka in juice, with plenty of juice. Lime, for
preference.

I like Scotch.... and Irish. I like rye only with vermouth. Vodka is
nice knocked back ice cold. Rum and gin are also good sipping liquors.

Save yourself some money, scotch is basically a whiskey, rye is a
grain that is used in making whiskey and scotch, Vodka is just shitty
cheap rum, and gin is just disgusting.

Run is All ya need, rum is all ya need.....

None at the moment but I will have it occasionally along with cognac.

Â* Three times in my life I've tried Scotch Whisky . Three nights that I
don't remember a thing about . I did however meet up earlier this week
with my long lost uncle Ezra Brooks . He's from Kaintuck and he's a real
smoothie . He's sittin' at my elbow as I type ... I've taken a liking to
Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey , straight or mixed . They've only
been making it there for a bit over 250 years now ... I think they got a
handle on the situation .

Scotch and rye are both whisky. Vodka is rum?!? That's a new one
to the rest of the world. Rum is made from sugarcane, vodka from
starches.

I must not be a scotch drinker. My father-in-law, who always drank
Johnny Walker Red Label (aged 4 yrs), challenged me to a blind tasting contest with
the Black Label (aged 8 yrs), I'd jes bought him fer his birthday. Needless to say,
I chose the Red Label.

Awhile later, I was offered a glass of White Horse Scotch (aged 18
yrs). I thought it was terrible! Not a big fan of Jack Daniels
(Black), either, but love Wild Turkey (101).

I like 'em all! Gin, Tequila, Wodka, RC, rum, wine, beer, etc. In short, Ima all
around drinker. BUT! .....will not make Lemoncello with PGA! ;)

No I am not saying that rum and vodka are exactly the same, just that
they are close enough that if you make a crappy run it will taste damn
close to high end vodka, That all

ahh yes not the big T. The teq teq is a liquor on its own. It has no
comparison in any dimension. It is gluten free and not contains no
wheat or wheat products unless it is some cheap Americanized version.
Do they make the teq teq in America?

Last year, I bought the last bottle of Galliano (small, 375ml) in this
valley (Arkansas R. headwaters)!

It's not the same as it was in the 70s-80s. Bol bought the rights to
the brand and returned it to the original recipe, which has a higher
"anise" flavor than the old recipe. No matter how little Galliano one
puts in their Wallbanger, it's not the same. It's undrinkable! I still
have 3/4rths of that bottle).

In fact, we have a Wallbangers Sports Bar in one of the towns close to
me. No one knows the origin of the name!! That's how bad it is fer
Harvey Wallbangers, around here! We have the bar, but do NOT know why
it is called "Wallbangers".

I don't like PGA cuz it's too strong of an alcohol (in CO, one can buy
151 proof or even higher). I made some Lemoncello and even at half
strength, it was TOO strong. Next time I'll use vodka.
Yer homemade Galliano is probably better that what can be bought, off
the shelf, these days. ;)
