Mine does not. It's a GE. I just looked at Lowes and GE is still making at
least some without. Mine has two fresh food drawers.

The drawers in my fridge don't specifically say "crisper". There are
labels: "Moist and Fresh". "Cool and Fresh". To me, "Cool and Fresh"
means less humidity. Don't know how true it is. My fridge also has
something labeled a "Convertible Meat pan" (whatever the hell that
means, I don't store meat or anything else in it). There's also a
"Snack Pack" drawer. I store sliced cheeses for making hot griddled
sandwiches or cheese toast, and shredded cheeses for use in cooking, in
that one. :)

None of them are actually called "crispers". And yes, it does depend on
where the Mfg puts the motor.

I don't plan on putting mine through any particular temperature test.
Suffice to say, if vegetables don't stay crisp I either put it in one of
the vegetable drawers and forgot about it or it was not in the best
shape when I bought it. <shrug>

yeah, I know. Julie has more trouble over the years with the quality
of the produce she buys from a multitude of stores.
I store cold cuts and mostly cheese in my 'meat drawer' because it is
designed to be the coldest spot in the fridge. 'Crisper drawers' are
2 lidded boxes at the bottom of the fridge. In all my refrigerators
these boxes have had a lever that you pull to open wide for less
humidity and close for a lot of humidity. It's up to you to decide
what humidity serves your choice of veggies and fruit best.

fridge. We all know she will continue to have problems with vegetables

I wonder if she just throws produce in the drawer without any covering and
expects it to stay good. I get a lot of mileage out of vegetables by
excluding as much oxygen as I can, so everything is wrapped or bagged.
Anything that might not enjoy having the moist plastic sitting up against
it (cilantro, for example), also gets wrapped in a paper towel.

Except for ginger, which just gets wrapped in a paper towel (no plastic).
I used to be able to keep it in a bag, but the stuff from my current
grocery store molds too quickly that way.

My fridge doesn't **** with nomenclature. It has a separately
cooled deli drawer and two vegetables drawers with adjustable
humidity vents.

I suspect you have two vegetable drawers. What this article is
calling "crisper" drawers. You're just trying to confuse the issue
and yourself. Post you model of refrigerator so we can help set you
straight and give you something to deny until your face turns blue.

I have had some that said "crisper". I wanted to get the kind my former MIL
had with adjustable humidity, but when it came time to buy, I had no choice.
Only one would fit the spot.

I actually haven't had a lot of problems. The recent celery thing is not me.
Got some at Winco today. $2.48 a stalk but most stalks had only 6 ribs that
were barely thicker than a pencil. I did find one with more ribs, although
some were broken of. The ribs were thicker but not as thick as I'd like.

I'm not blaming anything on that. Was just wondering if people just assumed
that a drawer was a crisper. I know I did until I went shopping for one. All
of my prior ones just came with the dwelling. I do know some had drawers
that said "crisper".

I have two drawers. No humidity control. GE calls them "Fresh Food" drawers.

Same here. I also have a small compartment for keeping butter at a
firm but just spreadable temp. My crispers also have a 1 to 5 setting
(1 being the coldest) and individual vents.

Most of us realize it's purely semantics. Someone suggested she store
her celery in the "crisper drawer" when she asked if there was a known
issue about celery. (Only in the Bothell area, where it's apparently #2
pencil sized and already wilting). So of course she had to post about
crispers.

Someone buy that woman a Dyno label-maker so she can change the name on
the drawer from "Fresh Food" to "Crisper"!

IIRC, she bought some sort of ventilated vegetable storage containers or
ventilated bagsthat were guaranteed to keep things like celery fresh
longer. Seems there was some sort of problem with those, too.

That's pretty much how I remember it, Janet. The co-op didn't work out
for her, either. Celery barely thicker than what size pencil? ;)

I don't understand buying bad or poor produce. I don't actually care
how much celery she *thinks* her household needs. Life will not cease
to exist simply because there isn't any celery. I'll go out on a limb
here and say most folks would just do without celery or find something
else rather than buy crap celery then bitch about it.

I can get wilted, brown ends celery in my fridge. It is through my
negligence. It's been in the fridge a long time and I haven't done
anything with it. I cut off the brown ends and use the rest.
Generally when I get a bunch of celery (comprising individual stalks)
I leave it in the bag it came in and put it in the 'crisper' drawer.
As I use the celery, I rubber band the top of the bag to keep the
celery from wilting. As I have used all of the celery, I pare the
root end and toss it in a bag I keep in the freezer. In this bag are
onion ends and pieces, celery, mushroom stems, odd pieces of bell
peppers, odd chunks of carrot, etc. This bag of stuff is intended to
make stock. It goes with another bag I have in the freezer that is
full of chicken trimmings.
Back in the day, when my daughter came home from school, she'd put the
bags of frozen stuff in a large pot with water and start the cooking.
When I got home from work I had nice broth to make soup.
Sheldon has often said that is white trash, depression era cooking and
he mocks it. I just don't see the point of buying stuff and throwing
the good stuff away when I can use it some other time.

Our new fridge does not have a butter drawer. The previous fridge, a
Maytag, had a special shelf on the door with a clear plastic flip up top
for butter. It kept falling out of place and after a couple dozen drops
the clear top broke and I never was able to get a replacement.... my
plug for Maytag.

My GE has two drawers at the bottom each with a slider that
opens/closes a vent,,, the drawers say nothing but there are images of
various produce on each; lettce. carrots. apples. oranges, etc. I
leave each slider at the halfway point, for no particular reason. The
meat drawer is higher up, about midway... I use it primarily for
coldcuts and cheeses, also cans of Diet Sprite, Fresh meats go
anywhere in the fridge and get cooked within 24 hours, usually for
dinner that night or marinated for the next day, or are rewraped and
frozen right away. I have my own rewraping system... for a roast I
lay the package on the counter with the styrofoam tray up. Then I
carefully open up the heat sealed plastic wrap, remove the tray and
that bloody absorbant tampon strip, and press the plastic wrap back.
The market here doubles the plaastic wrap so I see no reason to
discard it. The store label is still on the plastic wrap, then it
goes into a Zip-Loc and into the freezer. I still wish they'd make 2
quart Zip-Locs but they don't and I've no reason why not. They make 1
quart and 1 gallon, nothing inbetween. The 1 quart is too small for
most items and the 1 gallon is too large for most anything other than
marinating like 8 pounds of spareribs.. I already phoned Zip-Loc to
suggest that they make a 2 quart Zip-Loc... the airhead gal had no
clue about what's a Zip-Loc... she sounded like an 11 year old.
Zip-Loc makes several weird sized bags, they have a snack size that
might hold two of those baby carrots or three Oreos, no way I could
use it for a condom.
