Made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for supper yesterday. Haven't had
that for about 75 years. Not quite as good as I remember.

I use the strawberry too. My favorite. But I cheated and used nut butter -
not supposed to eat peanuts. Tastes the same to me.

They are still quite tasty (along with salty chips).
After 75 years, you just forgot how to make a decent one.

A few months ago I bought a jar of Welch's Natural of All Natural strawberry
jam/preserves. It is sooooooo sweeeeeeet and although jams, jellies, and
preserves are supposed to be sweet, this one is overpowering. Normally, I
buy Bonne Maman jams/jellies.

I bought the exact same stuff several months ago. I hadn't bought
supermarket jam or jelly in decades. It was so very sweet, yes,
overpowering, that I threw it away.
If you are a Costco member, look for the Huckleberry Haven, Wild
Huckleberry Jam. Made in Montana. It is outstanding.
Amazon has it for about $17/16 ounces. Costco is about $7 or 8. It's
really lumpy with huckleberries.
Or, also at Costco, look for Stonewall Kitchen, Wild Maine Blueberry
Jam. Also lumpy with blueberries and excellent. About the same
price.
My husband has been devouring peanut butter and jam sandwiches
everyday since we picked up the jams from Costco.

I'm almost through with this jar and I guess the reason I've been able to
get through it is because I don't eat it every week. It sure is a cavity
producer, though.

I've never eaten anything with huckleberries and would love to try it. I'm
not a member but my brother and sister-in-law are; I'll have to ask them to
pick me up a jar.

You should have mentioned you didn't use peanut butter! You can't
expect a "nut butter" (maybe tell us what kind? Almond? what?) with
jelly or jam to taste like your 75 year old memory of PB&J. It's not
peanut butter! The kind of bread you used would also come into play.

Then again, it's entirely possible you just don't like the sandwich
anymore. <shrug>

I only like them on white bread. Crunchy peanut butter and strawberry fruit
spread.

I really like the Maine Wild Blueberry jam; I don't find it too sweet. I keep a bag of frozen
blueberries so I can throw some in waffles or pancakes when the mood strikes, which luckily is
not very often.

(Speaking of cavity-generators, Tic-Tacs are the very worst culprit. They don't look
dangerous, but they are. If you like mints, substitute ice Breaker Mints.)

I keep the bag of Kirkland frozen blueberries for muffins. I toss as
many as I like into the batter and figure that is our fruit serving
for the meal.
The frozen are actually cheaper to buy than the fresh.

I like the Ice Breakers better than Tic-Tacs but haven't had either in a
month of Sundays.
