Peanuts

I know there was some sort of peanut problem a few years ago. Just can't
remember what. Puny peanuts? Drought? Something that.

Now I am having trouble finding plain peanuts. I can find the Cocktail ones
but Redskin or unsalted Dry roasted are hard to find. Can't even find online
unless I pay a really high price. Seems the flavored nuts are far more
common. Also seems like much less shelf space devoted to nuts in the stores.
Anyone else having this problem?

IIRC the peanut harvest in the US (Carolinas) was adversely affected by
Hurricane Matthew. What do you mean by "redskin" peanuts? Do you mean
raw (aka "Spanish") peanuts that you have to roast? That's the kind I
buy when I make peanut brittle. Like this:

https://nuts.com/nuts/peanuts/redskin.html

I can easily find jars of unsalted (and lightly salted) dry roasted
peanuts. I buy them frequently to eat as a snack. Yum!

Yeah, there was a peanut blight that only affected unsalted peanuts,
so they only grown the salted ones since then. Oh, and Beer
Nuts(tm).

Whatever is affecting your mind has obviously spread to your eyes,
too. I can even get plain dry-roasted peanuts at Walmart, which is
the last place you look for anything (besides Target, they have even
less for twice the price).

Leeme guess, you don't shop at Walmart any more (as of ...
yesterday)? Because they're in stock at your nearest stores.

But wait, don't start making any excuses just yet! Because they're
also available, wait for it..... on-line, too. Leaving you with
only one logical and sensible excuse, which is "They don't ship to
my planet!"

Spanish but not roasted. I did find lightly salted. Few stores carry
unstilted these days.

The Walmart Food center didn't have unsalted. I was there yesterday.

Not at the food center and I try not to go to the regular Walmart. Too many
drug deals in that parking lot.

Redskins peanuts are just commercial peanuts that have been
roasted and shelled but they were too lazy to remove the skins.
You can eat them but most people just wipe them off before eating
the peanut.

From the woman who orders the most mundane products online but can't bothered
to order peanuts although there is no shortage in her area. Just too lazy
to get off her butt look at another store. In six months she'll deny she's
had any problem finding peanuts, any variety, in her area.

If you want high quality peanuts I can tell you the best peanuts are
those that you make yourself. and they are so so easy to make. Sure
deshelling peanuts can be a pain but it gives me something to do when
I am bored...

Here's the recipe

Buy a few pounds of raw peanuts, not green, not already roasted, just
plain raw peanuts

shell your nuts until you have about 2 cups...
put them in your air fryer for about 5 minutes at 400 degrees (time
may be a bit different on different machines and time will decrease
with less nuts or increase with more nuts...
when the timer goes off DO TOUCH them for about 10 minutes because
they will be flaming hot and they are still cooking...
When they are cool enough to touch then go ahead and salt them to
taste...

Now these peanuts go so well with the caramel recipe I posted before,
they also go spectacular with ice cream or even better with ice cream
and caramel and some of the crushed nuts to make a caramel sundae with
nuts. or with bananas or with almost anything there is to eat... It is
always better with nuts...

Now quit playing with nuts and put them in your mouth already.

by plain peanuts do you mean the unshelled raw peanuts? If you are
then there must be a farmers market around you if you live in a decant
sized city.. If not find your nearest farmers market and go and buy
like 10 pounds of raw nuts

I only ever use the redskins (raw, usually labelled Spanish) to make
peanut brittle. I used to make it every year around the holidays which
is about the only time I could find raw peanuts. Years ago a friend of
my brother made some and gave it to him. Apparently she used unsalted
dry roasted peanuts to make the brittle and oh boy, was it bad! The
already cooked peanuts got burnt when added to the candy mixture. Guess
she didn't bother to taste it before she gave it to him.

They are the only brand around here that are always good... sold at
most markets here... and the larger the bag the lower the cost.
Probably good because they sell fast so are always fresh. Gin mills
here put them out in big buckets, eat all you want... natcherly they
put out the salty ones, peeps drink more. I buy unsalted, still has
no effect on my case a month Crystal Palace bill. I really don't buy
many, only a small bag now and then, still I don't throw the shells on
the floor. I don't like peanuts all that much, I much prefer
pistachios. I prefer the pistachios from California, those from
Turkey can't compete.

I bought about 3-4 lbs every couple of weeks for months of raw peanuts
took them home and air fried/roasted them but then I stopped because
peanuts have shit loads of calories...

Why do you sometimes say you never drink alcohol and other times you
tell us about your cases of vodka? Just curious.

Yeah, they're good. I think I like all nuts. I'm making nut burgers
soon. That might sound like a vegetarian nightmare, but they can be
quite good.

I believe that pecans are one of the nuts that are lowest in calories.

What I meant was... You have to place a minimum order for free shipping. I
don't need anything else now so won't order. And... The price for those are
cheaper at other stores.
