You'd likely be wrong... Pike Place is a big tourist attraction,
especially for foodies... I've been several times. Just about
everyone who is within a day's drive of Seattle goes to Pike Place if
only for lunch; great saw-seege, wonderful cheese, and fabulous bread.
Last I was there was some 35 years ago. I bet it's even more fabulous
now.
I don't remember a crumpet shop but then I wouldn't as I detest any
relatives of pancakes, waffles, English muffins and the like. I'd
head straight to a Sopressata and cheese shop, a bakery for crusty
bread, and get me a jug of Ruffino and I'm good.

Thing is, I have no need to go there these days. Beecher's is the cheese
shop there and you can buy that stuff online, at Costco and several other
grocery stores. Poquiotos (Mexican restaurant) now has a Bothell location.
So pretty much anything you can buy physically at Pike Place can be found
either online or at some other location in this state as well.

The big thing for the tourists is probably the fish throwing. I've seen
clips of that on a variety of TV shows over the years. It's all over YouTube
too.

That and just the feel of the place. Much of what is there hearkens back to
the old days. I don't mean the products being sold. I mean the building
itself and some of the things in and around it. Your nostrils will also be
assaulted with a variety of scents, most of which IMO aren't very good ones.

I was very lucky some years back when two brothers who sold produce at Pike
Place opened a store in Edmonds. They sold mostly produce but a few other
items such as Artisanal crackers, cheese, jam and cooking implements. I went
there for the produce which was always good, fresh and cheap but usually
wound up buying another thing or two as well. Alas, they didn't stay open
for very long. Not really sure why. They were very personable and sold good
stuff. I think perhaps most people are just unwilling to go to a little shop
like that mainly just for produce. It worked well for me because I was a
vegetarian at the time and the majority of my meals were soups and salads so
it was pretty much a one stop shop for me. Anything else I wanted like soda
pop (Tab in those days) I could pick up where I worked.

I certainly was! We moved to WA when I was 7. Before the traffic became the
nightmare that is it today and before I became disabled, I used to go to
Pike Place at least once a year. I went to the Crumpet Shop with my friends,
Mike, Doug and Lisa. Mike and Lisa are no longer with us. Doug still leaves
in Seattle but we are no longer in contact with each other. No drama or
anything like that. Our lives just moved in different directions.
