They're lying because Bud-Miller are a major advertiser for them.
Even the strong Belgian ales don't have that many calories.

Some of them are quite palatable. My friend and I go out on evening
motorcycle rides where we often end up visiting a craft brewery and
trying one of their products. He usually gets a dark one like porter or
stout. I usually go for something hoppier, usually an IPA. I always
keep a variety of beers on hand. There are a couple dinner dishes that
call for beer, in which case I usually have Pilsner.

Natty Daddy has a thick, white head and a clear, golden appearance,
with a little bit of lacing left behind. The aroma is a sharp, sweet,
corn husk smell, and the taste is sweet, yet not overly so, and one
picks up grain, a nice hop bitterness at the end, and there is a mild
alcohol under-taste. The mouthfeel is medium to heavy, and Natty Daddy
finishes pretty crisp, clean, refreshing, and easy drinking. I can see
how this could get someone in trouble. Overall, this is a winner for
Anheuser-Busch.

It's just beer for cryin out loud.

A working man's beer for me - Natural Ice. Very popular, a bit
stronger than normal beer (due to the ice process), pretty darn
inexpensive ($10.99 for a 15-pak and 24's often on sale for less
per beer), and it gets the job done. Bottom line though is that
it tastes the best of all beers I've tried so far...even against
very popular brands and quite a few micro-brews that I've tried.
The taste beats the hell out of Bud Ice.

and I'm curious now.
-also, Angry Orchard beer. Their ads caught my interest.

Angry Orchard is a hard cider rather than a beer. But like most of
the new breed of ciders, they don't state their ingredients and
what %age of fruit juice they are made from.

UK's law says that hard ciders must be at least 35% fruit juices,
while in the US it's 50%. And almost all of them have added
sugar(s). But again, they don't have to list any of their other
ingredients.

Redd's, OTOH, is an apple beer. No apple juice, brewed like the
cheapest of beers, with added sugar, artificially flavored and
colored, and some preservatives to top it off.

I'm not a big beer drinker but when I do indulge I choose Genesee,
primarily Genesee Cream Ale.... it's also a bargain, a 30 can case
typically costs $15. I use most for cooking.

I've tried the Angry Orchard and it wasn't bad at all. Also, the Redd's
but of the two I liked the one made with mad apples best. :-)

At 8% abv. and 181 calories, Natty Daddy clearly fits the guidelines
of a malt liquor, and yet it doesn't taste quite like you might
expect. It's more refined. It's fruity, and there's a very limited
amount of high fermentation characteristics, but beyond that it's
really quite easy to drink. It's sweetish with more of an apple juice
flavor than corn, and it's surprisingly smooth. The alcohol is
present, but of course it needs to be - it wouldn't be an American
malt liquor without a little 'edge'.

I've tried a few of the flavored beers. Didn't like them much.
(oh HI Julie). I actually did try some apple beer once but it
wasn't Redd's. I took the first sip and set it down and it got
knocked over on the seat. No big loss although it ****ed me off
to pay for that loss. Pretty expensive to pay for a 16oz flavored
beer just for one sip. I would have finished it at least for the
alcohol. dammit

Are you saying that Natty Daddy is an alcoholic root beer? That
doesn't sound so good. I added some white wine to root beer once
and it didn't work well at all.

I once did a taste test for root beer - my favorite soda.
I bought about 5-6 kinds and sipped each for the comparison.
I ended up with 2 favorites, then picked my best.

Dad's Root Beer won with A&W a very close second.
Oddly, not long after that, my grocery store
discontinued Dad's. "Those *******s!"

It tastes like beer but the lite beer drinkers wouldn't like it.
