The house is open now because we're enjoying a very mild 17 C morning. No laptops; I'm typing on a desktop running Fedora 28. Of course if Bruce lived where the temperatures dropped to well below the freezing point, he'd appreciate a seat warmer in his car. Or perhaps he'd opt for a servant to pre-warm it for him. |

Dave, I'm with you on the CRV seat warmers. Now that I'm used to it, I'll never buy a car without. I've had a cracked tailbone and compressed discs for 30 years and I use the seat warmer even with the AC on. I find that it relaxes the back muscles enough that I don't have to cut my shopping short..

I do, in fact, do some computer work online for my bridge club :) He said turn it off once a week as the rebooting sort of refreshes everything and puts some little things in line again. I used to switch off every night but he told me that was 'old' thinking now :) If you are thinking of replacing your Asus look at the business section of Dell, I had picked one in the home section without thinking and when I asked his verdict on it he pointed me to this one. It's been flawless and should see me out hopefully :) |

GRRRRRRRRR I won't buy another Asus because of > this and other annoying habits it has. I like to turn my Windows computer off when I can to save some money on electricity. OTOH, the system will go into sleep mode if I don't shut it down. As far as I know, most systems will allow you to configure your power management to never power down your computer/monitor. The price of electricity is high here so every little bit helps. My father-in-law used to leave his computers at home on 24/7. He was an old computer guy. That must have been expensive although he probably was compensated for the electricity in some way. That's just what old computer folks do. Force of habit I guess. I wonder if he'd still do that if he was alive today. Windows will typically get wonky after running for a while and rebooting the computer is the classic way to get programs that won't run or won't stop running to behave. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nn2FB1P_Mn8 |

I guess because I'm old now I just see electricity waste even though I pretty much know it's negligible, or maybe I hear my folks yelling "turn that light off if you're through in there, when you pay the light bill around here you can leave them on as long as you want to.":) Cheri |

When I'm home for the weekend or longer, my computer stays on. When I go to work, it gets turned off in the morning and then again the next morning when I leave for more work. Any computer benefits from a complete cold start now and then. As far as turning off and on each day will wear something out, that's nonsense. Just like telling to leave their tv on 24/7 so they don't wear out the on/off switch. The only thing I never turn off here is the fridge. |

The heat from my oven is exhausted into the kitchen. There's a vent at the back of the range. I can turn on the fan on the hood over the range, but that just pulls in hot, humid air from outdoors. Cooler than the oven-heated air, but the air-conditioning still has to work to cool it. Cindy Hamilton |
