Eight million Brits no longer eat meat:
<http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5615119/Eight-million-Brits-no-longer-eat-meat-one-four-set-cut-meat-intake.html>

"Young people drove the trend and are the most likely to worry about
meat ethics"

That corresponds with the fact that this aging newsgroup is full of
rabid meat eaters who hate non meat eaters for their superior ethics.

I don't 'hate' non meat eaters and I don't think they have superior
ethics. You are the one who keeps insisting people who eat meat are
evil.

So you're saying we have to have farm animals because otherwise we
can't grow vegetables sustainably. I don't even know where to start on
that one

Just one thing: if that is why we have farm animals, it's pretty
inefficient to kill them and eat them, rather than let them produce
more manure.

Perhaps you are not a good fit for this group. It was nice knowing you.

It's good for you guys to have someone with slightly higher standards
around. It might rub off in the long run. Maybe I should hang out in a
vegan group to get the same effect.

Â* No , you just wanted to stamp your little feet and get attention .
I'll eat almost anything that doesn't eat me first , and there isn't
much I enjoy more than a thick juicy steak . You eat whatever you want ,
just quit trying to force your "morals" on the rest of us .

Thank you Terry! I wonder why it's mostly vegetarians and vegans (Bruce
eats fish, he's said so before - canned mackerel of all things) who try
to shove their moralistic views down everyone's throat.

I don't try to talk my vegetarian neighbor into eating meat. At least I
know when I get the grill out and I'm cooking meat he's not going to try
to wrangle a dinner invitation. I'll take that nice juicy steak,
Terry... medium rare, please.

Given that this newsgroup is "aging", do you really think you can teach
old dogs new tricks?

Same with me, Cindy. To see your photo, they required an account.
I just don't bother with that. Dumb just to see a picture of
food.
Dsi1 also uses Amazon for pictures but they work fine without an
account.

We used to barbq whole pigs at the cottage for special occasions. I
can remember all those acres of great crackling.

It always seems to be a one way street with vegetarians and even worse
with vegans. They expect everyone to accommodate them but make no effort
to extend the same courtesy to meat eaters. Hosts these days are
expected to provide vegetarian options for those who don't eat, but
vegetarians don't offer meat to their guests.

I see it in my own family. My nephew and his wife are vegetarian. They
come down to visit my brother and his wife for all the meat feasts,
Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving so his parents have to do a
vegetarian meal. One of his brothers comes here for those meals because
he will get meat. When my brother and his wife go to visit with the
vegetarians they aren't even supposed to use the BBQ and utensils to
cook meat for themselves. If they want meat they have to go out for
supper and eat up paying the bill for everyone.

On my trip down to Georgia a bunch of us met up at a hotel in Virginia.
I had been looking forward to eating at the German restaurant next door,
but everyone said we should go to the Chinese place so our vegan member
could get something suitable for her diet. The plan for the vacation
rental was that we would be eating out a lot of the time but for in
house meals we would form teams and each team would be responsible for a
dinner for all. I was going to do a shrimp dish for my friends, but
opted out of that when I saw what the others were cooking. Some don't
each much meat, and some of the others did vegan meals to accommodate
the one vegan.

One of the other guys and I came up with a solution. We bought flesh to
supplement the vegan meal. He bought sausage to be added to our servings
of vegan chili and I got a couple pounds of shrimp to grill.

We have another trip planned for September on a reserve near Lake
Nippising. It is too remote to be making a run to the store. We have to
bring enough food for three nights and four days, so three group dinner,
and they are not going to be vegan.

You should try my recipe for vegan pea soup sometime. I've posted
it many times but people here seem to think that pea soup is a
fail without pork. No one has ever reported back that they tried
it. I'm not a vegan or even a vegetarian but this soup taught me
that a fantastic meal need not contain animal anything.
