Default Appetizers

I lucked out tonight. We were just about to have a cocktail when a
friend called to say they were bringing over some appetizers. He and
his wife showed up 10 minutes later with a plateful of sushi he had just
made, along with a small heap of wasabi and some pickled ginger. Holy
cow the wasabi was hot. Since I am always cautious with wasabi I put
just a small dot on the first one in order to test the power. And I mean
a dot. I dipped a toothpick into the wasabi and then daubed it onto the
sushi. Even that little bit was about as much as I could handle, though
it may have assaulted my taste buds with so much power that they were
slightly numbed and I could handle more with the rest of the sushi.
