It's snowing, there's ice on top of the hummingbird feeder, but this is
one of two hummers that are still coming around. I'm guessing they
wished they'd gone to Florida.

There is sugar water in it, you shouldn't feed them that red dye
coloured stuff, not good at all for them.

Yes and I'm making another batch because they're still here and are
draining it fast. They do like the colour red, though. Last summer I
was sitting outside reading a book and was wearing a red shirt. A
hummingbird hovered right in front of me. Silly bird, the feeder is
over there ---->

Ornithologists say sugar water is just what they need - pls don't add
anything more. Sufficient that most feeders are red and yellow, that
will get their attention. The actual 'recipe' as such is 1 part sugar
to 4 parts water. Boil well.

I never add red dye to sugar water. I haven't done anything differently
this year but it's rare to still see one after October. I made another
batch of sugar water and refilled the feeder yesterday. It was odd
having to put on a coat and boots and tramp through snow to bring in the
feeder to wash and refill it. I'm thinking those birds (there are two
of them) are wishing they'd gone to Florida when they had the chance.
