I just checked, and she's currently worried that she's about to be dropped by her label. IMO, these type of shows are not the right way to foster *genuine* new talent (that said, these same shows would *never* put on any genuine talent anyway). Susan Boyle (and many others over the years) simply are not good enough to sustain a musical career. Most of those selected don't even write their own material... Well, see, I'm not interested in watching people sing other people's songs for a start. I watched him sing it anyway, I'm still lost on what's so good about his singing <shrug>. It's just part of social life and some very unexpected people have wonderful voices. Susan Boyle is just one example of that tradition; her singing had been admired and enjoyed locally for years before the talent show that brought her to world notice. IMO Cowell has a great deal to answer for in commercially exploiting such a vulnerable person and exposing her to pressures that right from the start, she couldn't cope with. However, her saving grace is that she still lives in her original home and community. Susan Boyle will still be singing live to people who like to hear her, long after the entertainment world has forgotten Cowell. Janet UK |
