Just one more sign that Alton Brown is manipulating the network, keys in hand, doing
whatever the hell he wants. And I suspect Zakarian is right there with him.
The current Star choice ended up between two of the most annoying buffoon caricatures
ever seen, while the true pastry chef with proven skill in all kinds of dishes, ended up third.
That will teach me to watch. What a waste of talent and my time.

I don't watch that stuff, and am amazed at the celebrity chefs that find
themselves in litigation. I don't doubt what you suspect, but do you
have a suggestion as to what their motives are?

Motive? Pure entertainment approved by executives who are sadly lacking
in discriminatory evaluation skills, and playing to the know-nothing viewers. I
don't have a clue, actually, other than "entertainment in a food setting." The
network used to be so much better. Now it is just pathetic.

What do I watch, mostly? My PBS has a couple
cooking shows weekly, plus the current "Great British Baking Show" which at the
least demonstrates how to make some baked items I am intrigued by, and totally
unfamiliar with.

I love that Great British Baking Show, there is none of the hysteria
and tantrums that seem to exist in the NA ones and nobody is mean to
the one who has to go each week. This past week, I had no idea about
the 'religious' side of the lady finger effort, very interesting.

Wait, what?? She didn't ask you how you wanted her to style her
hair? What's up with that.

I'm not really a TV viewer, but I too don't understand the appeal of
those shows.

So you think they picked the wrong contestant as t he winner just due to
incompetence? I thought perhaps they did it on purpose, maybe to entice
the viewers to watch the next episode or season to see if they will get
it right this time.

Taxed, I think they picked the winner based on pure entertainment, although
the food she cooked seemed good. But her "cutesy" made up words and other
affectations, for me, were over the top and unappealing. I would never watch
her. IMO, they won't get it right until they focus on chefs or potential chefs
instead of entertainment. There are plenty of other entertaining food shows on
TV already. And very few of Star winners have been truly successful. A few seem
to have found that success by being included in various ensemble shows.

Everything worth watching on Food Network must have happened before my
city was wired for cable.

I love cooking with wine.
Sometimes I even put it in the food.

Emeril hosted "How to Boil Water", but my favorite cook was David
Rosengarten with "Taste" back in the day. Let's say the early to mid
nineties. Rosengarten's recipe for a tuna sandwich was sublime.
OTOH, way, way back in the day, I used to watch Skipper Sedley and
Mayor Art on KRON. The only TV station my small town in Nevada received
in the fifties was KRON. Go figure.
