The flush ceiling mount fixtures that I got were dimmable. Or isn't
that what you meant?

Simple, 2-wire programmable timers used to be readily available but are
now difficult to find. HDepot only stocks a 3-wire type now.

Dimmers are widely available but timers aren't. I set mine so that the
lights in the kitchen and some other rooms come on and switch off at
certain times to give the appearance that someone is at home.

That's what the on at dusk off at dawn units do, and some are self
dimming as the ambient light increases... some also have a motion
sensor that triggers full brightness.

That's good to know. I guess technology wasn't there when had the
light over my sink replaced 6-7 years ago.

Thanks. The dimmer they installed (and then removed) hummed when it
was dimmed to a certain level. The rest of the lights in the kitchen
are on another switch and dim, so I didn't stress over it and told
them on/off was fine.
