Clark Gable is on TV. We couldn't sleep I've fixed hash browns with
red bell pepper, green onion and scrambled eggs. Should be able to go
to sleep after this.

Slow cooked mutton leg in stock with rosemary, garlic and pepper
berries, with a vegetable bake intended for last night.

I had a leg of lamb in the slow cooker yesterday, with garlic and rosemary:)
8 hours and very tender. No stock just a glass of white wine. I will
serve it with roast potatoes and veg.

I got two for a good price so the other is in the freezer:)

Yes, which woman wants to go to sleep when Clark Gable is on TV?

Which movie was it? I've always been a big fan of his, but he's
not on TV nearly often enough.

I admire you ability to function in the middle of the night. If I got
up, cooked, and ate like that, I'd never get back to sleep.

Maybe because he's been dead for 50-some years.

I'm often up at that time but I'd be too lazy to cook all that.
I'll sometimes make a quicky snack though. I try to pre-plan
those late night snacks so they're easy to fix.

No. Errol Flynn, Cary Grant and Humphrey Bogart are on TV
quite frequently. Gable was the King of Hollywood for a while.

It's probably something to do with their studio affiliations
and who owns the rights.

I don't know which movie. He was very, very young.
I remember walking down the hall to the bedroom after eating and
that's it. Zonked right out.

The only movie with Clark Gable I ever liked was, Gone With the Wind. His ears bother me and he's too swarmy. I don't sleep much, maybe three to four hours on a really good night, but I could never eat in the middle of the night, I'd have such heartburn!

I've had insomnia for twenty years, at least. I tease my husband that he sleeps more while watching tv in the evening than I sleep in an entire night.. However, I'm wide awake and active during the day, no drowsiness, no naps, etc. I've tried everything out there for sleep aids, nothing works. I'm up by 5 am.

Me too but one thing I learned from a sleep clinic was to try and be
regular in your habits so I go to bed usually for 10pm to watch the
National news and by the time that's over, I can generally go to
sleep. They also said do not sleep in on weekends, get up at your
usual time. Only time I would have slept in would have been when the
kids were young, so that's not my problem. Guess some don't need
eight hours per.

Nice. I use white wine often too but didn't have any on hand.
By the time I got home yesterday it had been cooking for 10 hours or
so on the fire, I just pulled the bone out. I thickened the remaining
liquid with potato flour, which made a nice gravy.

My breath is pretty bad too - near as I can figure, it happens when I'm
not eating enough and start burning up my fat reserves. I'm not sure
what I can do about that except to pig out on nachos and chicken wings.

I look like a normal guy but my breath smells like the walking dead -
all death and decay. That's the breaks.

When cooked that long, I would expect the lamb/mutton to be very gamy.
Or does the long cooking modify the stronger taste of mutton. I don't
know, so am curious. Or perhaps you like the taste of mutton. My
mother always went on and on about mutton and the strong taste so I am
wondering.

I've got some kind of aversion to chewing gum. Beats the heck out of me
why that is. What would be great would be a mask that covers my mouth
and directs any exhaust air upwards and behind me. Problem solved! Of
course, while we got that in place, we might as well make a filtration
system for incoming air. I think these personal filtration system are
inevitable.

Yes, it is gamey. I do say that under protest, because I don't find it
gamey at all. But I know some ppl on RFC find even lamb gamey, so...
:)

It's not until I get into wild venison or kangaroo that I start
thinking about the word gamey. I like lamb and I also like mutton.
Both delicious to me.

Not a recipe with prescribed measurements but make a roux with butter
and flour, add some of the mutton water in which you are simmering the
mutton and allow it to simmer for awhile (so the flour taste is gone)
Add the capers and voila!
