I don't dislike her, but things like using store bought pie guts to make smaller pies is stupid. Actually, she cooked more than most of the shows on FoodTV these days. > I don't know why anyone would dislike her immensely, she's not a > favorite of mine, but maybe some people can't handle another person > having success or something. That makes no sense, there are any number of wildly successful chefs cooking on tv that people don't dislike. It's not her success. nancy |

I'm not in the least bit jealous of her and I acknowledge she's worked hard to be successful. And that dumping canned pie filling into a store bought angel food cake, and covering it with canned frosting and ... ACORNS? isn't good cooking and is actually laughable. Which is why people laugh. Not because she has money. Mario Batali has money. I like Mario. nancy |

I liked Molto Mario (Mario Batali's show) because he was passionate about good ingredients, and his love of traditional Italian cookery was his motivating force. He made some very simple dishes that looked absolutely delicious, and he explained what the food should look, sound, and smell like when it reached a turning point in its preparation. Some episodes had guests that sat at the opposite side of his work area, and he would press them into service for small prep tasks, thus figuratively bringing the viewer along with the idea that you don't need to have 20 years of professional experience to make good food. Is her show still on? Mainly because the few times I did see it, the stuff she made looked terrible or just didn't appeal to me. I must say that one took the cake though. Reminds me of the Mother's Day when my mom was really sick in bed and I wanted to give her something. My dad was out of town so I had no one to take me shopping and they hadn't yet put in the drugstore within walking distance so I had no real shopping options. So I looked around the house and came up with a lone shortcake. We had no berries in the house and I thought that her favorite color was green. Turns out that it wasn't. It was pink. Anyway... I knew how to make icing so I made green icing and put it on the cake. This was one of those little cakes with the deep depression on the top that you would fill with berries. But I filled it with icing. And I served it to her. She took one look at it and threw up. Heh. I think she probably would have thrown up anyway but the sickly sweet cake with the odd green icing just put her over the edge. I don't normally watch videos either. But for some reason I decided to watch this one. I don't even think the guy's commentary was needed. I found myself making the same faces that the guy was and wanting to hurl. That thing looked like a hot mess! I don't think it was hilarious but it was funny! |

Her show is called semi-homemade. She buys things already made and doctors them up. This sort of food prep just doesn't appeal to me for the most part so I don't watch the show. It's more the type of thing I would have done as a kid. Like the ice cream that looked like a water melon. You lined a large bowl with a shell of softened green ice cream or sherbet, let freeze, then filled it with a mix of softened pink/red ice cream or sherbet that you had mixed chocolate chips into. Freeze again. To serve, you unmolded it and cut it into slices where it somewhat resembled watermelon. I actually saw them make this on TV but I was slightly disappointed in the end results because I felt that it needed a really thin layer of white ice cream between the two to make it look more authentic. I vowed to do that if I ever made it again. But I never made it again. |

Why would you dislike her because of what she uses? What would > that have to do with you? That seriously didn't look appealing to me. One thing I learned to do was something they used to do in the K Mart cafeteria. It came about when they had a little leftover cherry pie filling. They put little spoonfuls on the chocolate pudding. And it was quite good. I'll bet apple or other flavors would be good on vanilla pudding too. But apple with that looked like a hot mess. And acorns? |

Even though most of what they cooked didn't appeal, I thought they were funny and I liked their show. But many people here disliked them. I also like Nick Stellino but many dislike his accent. And I like to watch Lidia Bastianich but always in the back of my mind are the horrible accusations that have been made of her and how she mistreats people. |
