I'm getting sick of your narrow-minded, provincial negativity. **** the HELL off, you miserable, self-centered old drunkard. http://amazingribs.com/recipes/pizza...lam_pizza.html New Haven is famous for Yale, but to foodies, it's an old haven for pizza, the most famous of which is the white clam pie at Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana, founded in 1925. Pepe's is so popular that Zagat Guide called it "Connecticut's most popular restaurant". Period. The locals call their crust Neapolitan style, but it is definitely not like the original Italian Neapolitan style. The dough is more like a Roman dough, heavier, no doubt mixed with oil, and more breadlike, puffed up along the edges where it is crackly, and slightly charred underneath. Whatever they call it, it is wonderful, and the white clam pie couldn't be simpler: Rhode Island Littleneck clams, freshly shucked on the premises, garlic, dried oregano, a dusting of grated Pecorino Romano cheese, and good olive oil. No tomato sauce. No mozzarella (called mootz by the locals). No sausage or pepperoni. So simple. Duplicating Pepe's pies is impossible, but you can come close at home with the right ingredients, and a little love. |

I didn't listen but I did read the transcript and the comments. I found that very interesting. The descriptions of 'white trash' I saw here certainly don't apply to that lady! "Hart is a water resource economist at the World Bank in an intellectually elite environment" "She's a trained opera singer and went to school at U.C. Berkeley. She lived overseas for several years and she says that she speaks 10 different languages." I can only guess that everyone has their own opinion of what constitutes 'white trash'! Thank you for posting that. It was most enlightening ![]() -- http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/shop/ |

My feelings aren't hurt, I'm not upset. Neither Bryan nor Sheldon has any track record with me for good eats. When I have a football party or New Year's Eve party where people are standing around talking, watching TV, drinking beer etc., I don't serve caviar. I put out stuff that people like and that they can eat with their hands. These little sandwiches are always popular and are the first food gone. If you are a 'foodie', I would expect that you could take the idea of the sandwiches and alter it to meet your standards. Sheldon needs to get some new material -- tiad regarding fish and cheese is so old. Bryan??? Who knows? Janet US |

As to the recipe above, it sparks me to think of one with that simple suriname aka 'fake lobster' stuff. I'd probably shift the cheese to a blend and replace the almonds with ripe olives but thats *my* tastes. I'm just not a big almond fan. Carol -- |

I know, and I think subbing a decent cheese might make this decent. I just don't get why in a food group like this, the substitution wouldn't already be made. The ingredients list, apart from the fake cheese food, doesn't look bad at all. |

The more I look at this, if you used a New Orleans style baguette or maybe individual sourdough sandwich rolls, I think you'd have a sort of po' boy sandwich with this. Probably worth trying (with better cheese, of course.) |

No matter what is substituted, someone will have a problem with it. Figure out what you'd substitute and use that instead of acting like a juvenal. -- sf |
