Default What the Hell Happens to Dark Meat

I'm not sure if this question had been covered, if so, it's likely
buried deeply in a thread on oatmeal cookies or something.

A new chicken joint opened nearby: Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers.
It's about 8 blocks over from Chik-Fil-A. Then thre's chicken
sandwiches to be add through most drive-thrus, and chicken nuggets,
strips and fingers.

Seemingly ALL of this stuff is white meat and shards of white meat
scrunched into a nugget or a blob or something.

So what the hell happens to all the dark meat in the animals used to
make the endless tied of white-meat fastfood? Where does it all go? I
honestly think I might stop by one of these places (not to include
Chik-Fil-A), if I could be guaranteed the chicken objects were dark
meat.

I was think this the other day except it was what the hell happened to white meat? If you got to the franchise chicken joints, all they serve in their meals is thighs and drumsticks - no white meat. My guess is that they're sending the white meat to China for cat food.

OTOH, the plate lunch places all serve boneless chicken thighs as chicken katsu, barbecue chicken, mochiko chicken, et al. Chicken breast is rather rare. Perhaps they're sending all the dark meat to Hawaii.

I have no idea why, since my wife and I prefer dark meat, but the only
places we can find dark meat here in Florida are Indian restaurants.

When the world will be struck by flooding, earthquakes, famine and
seven kinds of locusts, you will be more than happy to find some
forgotten dark chicken meat in the back of your freezer.

The Asian market closest our house used to sell leg quarters at a
firesale price. I used to buy them to tempt our old dog's appetite,
until my wife complained about how they smelled when boiled.

I'm with you! I will eat turkey but only if forced. Prefer chicken! As a
consequence, we never cook and eat turkey at home. Went out to dinner at
a friends recently, turkey on the menu. Lucky they also had chicken
otherwise I'd have nipped out to the pub for dinner!

Well I would eat it in that situation, albeit unwillingly but at least they
were prepared with chicken to offer

I've never had turkey much. It's not a big holiday food in the
Netherlands. But I don't think I minded it the few times that I had
turkey thighs in Tasmania.

I didn't grow up with it which is perhaps why I didn't get a taste for it.
Odd though because we used to have all kinds of game; not that I have much
of a taste for that either
Also a I grow older my tastes become more conservative.

Like I said, I'd have to be forced and, rest assured, SWMBO can be very
forceful! ;-)

Turkey thighs are good. Almost 2 meals out of one thigh. Plenty of
meat for me in one sitting.

Fast food joints mainly cater to TIADers, like little kids they don't
have educated palates so they won't eat dark meat. However there are
many ethnic eateries where dark meat is prefered. Poultry is very
easy to disjoint, the breasts go to the fast food industry and the
legs and thighs go to particular ethnic eateries but both white and
dark parts are equally sold at supermarkets. Chicken drumsticks and
thigh parts are very popular so are displayed profusely in the meat
coolers... in fact most chicken nowadays is sold as parts because not
that many people want to deal with preparing whole chickens... today
the masses buy chicken by the bucketful from the Colonel; light and
dark. When I roast my T-Day turkey I prefer the dark parts and leave
the white to others... in fact all the cats prefer the dark parts so I
have competition.

I'd prefer you use a sniper rifle on me from a few hundred yards away.
There you go - a reason for you to buy yet another gun and ammo.
