Times are tough for candy stores in the US these days. Being in a room with wall to wall candies isn't so exciting as it was 50 years ago - even for kids. |

I remember when one of the movie theaters put in some bulk candy. I was excited to be able to buy a small amount of just what I wanted. Until I paid for that handful of sweets. Over $8! The next time I went to that theater, the bulk candy was gone. Then I remember being at some weird little mall with my husband, but I can't remember now what state we were in. Again, excited because they had a bulk candy store. Seemed appealing with all of those barrels. But when I began looking, there was nothing new there. I did buy a few hard candies. The mall here had a candy store. We took daughter and her friend in there when they were quite a bit younger. Again, no big deal. Everything they had could be purchased elsewhere and for a whole lot less. But my husband still told them to buy bags of candy. I think the friend may have eaten hers. Not sure. The bag that my kid got, never got eaten. She didn't even want the candy but my husband put some seemingly random items in there and told me to pay for it. More recently my mom called me, very excited to tell me that they had put a new candy store in the mall. So I looked. Doesn't seem any different than the other one but the name has changed. Oh. Candy. Big whoop. Then again, my mom tends to get excited and I can't see why. Like when she told me about the root beer floats they'd had where she lives. I was kind of like... Uh huh. I take you to the store at least once a week, as does my bro or SIL. And you have a kitchen with a fridge. At any time, you could buy root beer and ice cream. So... I don't get it. |
