Default OT Bothered by a boat

A while back, this came up and I couldn't believe that anyone could be
bothered by a neighbor's boat. I mean... The people who just moved in next
door have one. It is covered. Two doors down, the elderly dad has one. He
built a little cover for it. No problem. Do not bother me at all.

But today, I went to get the mail and was like... Say what? What is that
giant thing in the driveway next door? And it is a boat. Not just any boat
but a boat that takes up the entire driveway and is taller than my house. I
hope it is not going to stay there. Because they have company a lot and
they have a lot of their own vehicles. Each parent has a vehicle. He has
one for his work. And he has a very large trailer, also for his work. And
he has parked said trailer in front of our house so that one of us has to
find someplace else to park our vehicle. Our driveway will hold two cars
but we have three. They also have two older kids who will be driving soon
and may have their own vehicles.

I also do find this boat to be a real eyesore. I don't know a thing about
boats but it is truly butt ugly. And when daughter came home, she flew into
the kitchen excitedly, asking me if I had seen it because she knew that I
wouldn't like it.

So... Yes. I am now bothered by a boat. I didn't think it would happen.
But it did.

It's still there. Thing is, they don't even live in this house yet. I
don't think I want to imagine how many vehicles might be there at one time
when they do move in. Guy is working around the clock though. Hopefully
they will move in soon.

LOL...this would not happen in my daughter's gated community with
neighborhood association. If any vehicle is parked anywhere in her
yard, front or back, in the street in front of the house...and it sits
there more than six (6) hours, the neighborhood association will have
it towed away and impounded. To buy a house in this neighborhood, you
must sign an oath that you will be extremely anal throughout the
duration of your home ownership.

(or you could say you would never be bound by a neighborhood
association...like me)

Ask him to move the trailer as he's taking up YOUR parking space.

Joan and Julie, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you are talking
about parking on the street in front of your house, that space is not "yours."
It is public. Given no other restrictions by the city on that section of street,
anyone can park there.

That's true, but I'd ask just the same.

Not this guy. He already told me that I have to move the fence. My
contractor says otherwise. And I think he was the one putting the extra
trash and yard waste with mine. I notice that he is putting out cans now.
Not a trash can but recycle and yard waste.

So he can squat on your property? That will be a cold day in Hell.
Tell him he's liable for any damage that happens to your fence.

I know that. That's why I am not happy that he put the boat in the
driveway. That's where he normally puts the trailer.

You might want to follow that up with local ordinances. In many cases,
parking a car is considered ok but a truck or an unattended trailer
might just fall foul of the local rules. There might also be time limits
on such unattended items before they need to be removed. Well worth
checking up on.

If I were in her position and couldn't get anyone in my local government
on the phone, I'd go to their offices and bother people until I got
some answers.

Julie, just call your municipal code office, or the streets guy. They can
tell you right away if there is any restriction. If the boat is as big as you
say, it probably violates something.
However, the owner who hasn't moved in yet may just have moved it there
early to get the move done, and as soon as he finds a marina, he will
move it again. Or not. Good luck. It is never easy dealing with a
nuisance neighbor.
My next door neighbor has about five cars at his house, and they always annoy
me with parking their cars not close to their own driveway, but within inches of my
driveway. I am sure it is so they have easier access to their own drive, but it isn't
very thoughtful. It is, however, not enough of an irritation for me to confront him.
There may be bigger issues later in his residency, and some of the cars belong to
his kids who are in school, and they will eventually move on.

I have no clue what those terms mean or if we even have such a thing. We
live in an unincorporated area so things that apply to the city do not apply
to us. I know there are no restrictions on cars. Or so I've been told by
other residents.

Phone the county? Apparently you don't know how things work here. Almost

I have said it repeatedly to you. Several times you have put up the wrong
information for Waste Management and I said it did not apply to me. Bothell
is my address. But no, I don't live in the city.

For the record, I never once even considered sleeping with you. And
you know that. You're the one who somehow got the idea that I was
going to move in with you - and you posted that to RFC just out of the
total blue.

After having met you twice at casual austin.food gatherings 2 or 3
years ago and not giving you any indication that there was any sort of
romantic interest in the least, you somehow twisted that into MY
MOVING IN WITH YOU?

That was just way too Psycho for me. I sat there at stared at the
screen for at least 15 minutes wondering, WTF? That was just way too
spooky. I've met weird, semi-psycho women before but you win, hands
down. Mapi of austin.general still holds the male title, but at least
he announced his psychosis right there lying on the floor of the bar
at B.D. Reilly's rather than romantically obsessing over me for 2
years.

Needless to say, you need to come to terms with what happened and why
your mind works that way and stop making up excuses for your fixation
and disappointment before we become the next Yoli and Michael. I'd
prefer you use a sniper rifle on me from a few hundred yards away.
There you go - a reason for you to buy yet another gun and ammo.

And Jeremy, I was just tired of your decade of bullshit and visions of
grandeur about all these things you're "working on" or have not done
in the past. Even posting a call for meetings with imaginary people
about imaginary projects of yours at "the normal time and place", as
if you are somebody important with a life. I'm pretty sure you're
manic depressive mixed with habitual liar.

Sorry I don't fit either of your Ideal Psycho Pal Profiles.

There is no parking space. We have houses. He is just parking in front of
ours. I don't think he's violating a law or anything. And it's not
possible for him to park in front of his house as his yard is too small.
Not the trailer anyway. A small car will fit.

If your neighborhood has an HOA , contact them, there are probably rues that cover that sort of thing. Also look in your paperwork you got when you bought your house, they may be covenants that cover this problem. Other than those things I haven ideas, it would drive me crazy too.

When we first moved here, the neighbor made a point to tell me how
happy she was that the house had gone up for sale and they'd moved
their boat out of the side yard. All she could see when she looked
out the kitchen window was this big boat.

I'm sure that was her way of saying Please be thoughtful and don't
put a boat or an RV there? No worries, if I had either I'd park it
elsewhere.

Amazing that people will pay tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars
for a boat but won't pay $100 a month to park it where it is not a
nuisance.

Them and RVs and camper trailers. My neighbour has am camper trailer, a
nig utility trailer, a back hoe and a bunch of other toys in his
driveway and front yard, but this area is zone agricultural so there is
nothing I could do about it if I wanted. Thank goodness there are a lot
of trees planted between me and the eyesore.

My brother lives in a subdivision and there is a house around the corner
that has a big camper trailer parked in their driveway most of the year.
It is not much of an issue for him because he is around the corner, but
he has a good friend who lives next door to the trailer people and when
they look out their kitchen window..... voila.... trailer.

I really don't know what is going on over there. I also don't know where
you could park a boat for that cheap. I do know people who own boats. Dry
dock is very expensive. Getting a slip is even more expensive. At this
point I am wondering if they are living in the boat as it appears that they
have not moved any furnishings in.

Nope. No HOA. I wouldn't live in such a place.

Again, none of that applies to me. I am not in Bothell. I merely have a
Bothell address.
