Worthless bacon trivia
 

They held a bacon festival near here last weekend but I didn't go. The
newspaper had an article about it though. It also added some bacon
trivia.

- Bacon is one of the lowest priced meats. Prices dropped 25% last
year according to the USDA.

- Bacon is one of the oldest processed meats in history. The Chinese
began salting pork bellies as early as 1500BC.

- A 250-pound pig yields about 23 pounds of bacon.

Not worthless at all. You never know when someone may ask "I wonder
when they first salted pork bellies?" and you'll have the answer.

The lower price of pork is why I bought a couple of pork tenderloins at
the store last week. :)

I seem to be using less bacon lately. I still love the taste of bacon
as much as I used to - but a little bit seems to go a lot further for
me these days. No idea why that is, probably just a phase I'm going
through. Not all that long ago I would have come close to going
through a pound a week on a regular basis.

One of my favourite breakfasts is a couple of strips of streaky bacon
with some onion, a cooked tomato and sliced avocado on the side.

Depending on the thickness of the strips there are around 20 or so slices to
a pound, so if she stretched that pound out over a week with him eating a
couple of slices on Sunday, it would average out to less than 3 slices a
day, hardly anything to cause overweight.

bacon seems to be flying off the shelves. The bacon Americans are
eating was produced on American farms. Why do I care if the Chinese
government has legally purchased the stock of Smithfield on Wall
Street? Are they going to take all our bacon away and feed it to

Moreover, people engaged in that industry have told us that the notion
of a Chinese-owned company raising hogs in the U.S., shipping them live
all the way to China for slaughtering and processing, then exporting the
meat back into the U.S. would be prohibitively cost-inefficient —
especially since the slaughtering and processing infrastructures already
exist in the U.S., and the Chinese domestic market for pork is far, far
larger than the U.S. market for pork.

If not they are a responsive place to order online from.

Their hams are of the highest quality as well. I have never been let
down by Burgers on any food item.
