In that case you're also confused by aubergine/eggplant and
courgette/zucchini. No problem, I was too - but I learned. I was
also flummoxed by the garbanzo (which is the way I learned it), chick
pea, ceci (cece) bean are alternative words - but I learned to connect
the dots.

What flummoxes me to this day is "broad bean". When I think about
"broad bean", it brings to mind the Italian broad bean

Vicia faba = fava beans = fave in Italian = broad beans.
