(Sigh) See a real rheumatologist and get a real cure. My first and only gout attack was severe. Bedridden for a week, crutches for 2 wks, cane for 2 mos. Doc put me on allipurinol. Now, I eat anything I choose (including sardines!) and haven't had an attack in 15 yrs. nb |

It's similar to the keratin in hair, nails and skin of all mammals, and even the feathers and beaks of birds, and the scales of fish. Fiber is made of a bunch of glucose molecules, and TTBOMK, the only animals that use glucose complexes as structural components are arthropods, and it would be a stretch to call even those, "fiber." Chances would have been good that nobody else would have been in the break room when she went to lunch because it was an odd time. I found someone else to open it for her. |

Pretty sure that is what my FIL took and my husband too. Neither could/can eat what they want. But it's different for everyone. I used to have a friend who got it in his knees. Didn't seem to be related to food. |

I've been on allopurinol for over a decade and am quite happy not to have had a gout attack since my doc gave me the script. The last attack was apparently triggered by anchovies. I only ate them cause my grandson was visiting and we usually split a small pizza with them little salty fish added. Ouch! In, any event only anchovies and sardines scare me. I used to carry a couple of cans of anchovies in case the pizza place was out. No more! I have a couple of cans in my kitchen. You can have them, but you'll have to come get them. In the Ozarks ... |

I'd jes discovered salt-pack anchovies and was eating half a dozen every night with a couple bottles of beer. Silly me! Now, after downing allipurinol for a couple decades, I can tolerate anchovies on my pizza. Jes not regularly. I allow myself one lrg pizza and one can of lil' salty fishes about once per year. nb |

I've managed to get by without the drugs and without major dietary limits - so far. With age it may be slowly getting worse, my last attack after a few trout over a few weeks was scary, I used to eat those all the time with no problem. And the gout kept moving from one joint to another so took a long time to clear completely, never had that before either. Do you know how many joints there are in the foot - in each foot? OMG. I could probably eat one tin of sardines per month without triggering an attack, such red meat, shrimp, mushrooms and beer as I consume seem OK. J. |

But then, I couldn't eat whatever I please. :( No, I do not take allopurinol. Yes, trout is *very* high, like sardines, like all fresh fish. My mistake and I paid for it! My father had one or two small attacks of gout, was given allopurinol for a while, then discontinued it. I guess I have it a little worse than he ever did, or my diet is a little worse, but still based on his model I guess it's not too bad. I probably eat less than a quarter of the red meat that he was in the habit of eating, back in the day, so that's in my favor. J. > >nb |

It would clear the room but it was good stuff. I never saw it in a store, only in a tavern next to the pack of Joe's Cheese and crackers which of course was right next to the big jar of pickled eggs. Good times. |
