They also alert me to any charges over $200 (or whatever amount one wants). Mine gives me air miles on United. I get one bag checked for free when I charge my United flights on that card (and double miles) and I get priority boarding and two tickets per year to the United Lounge. Since there is only one way to get to Houston International Airport, United, I fly with them. I'm using miles for my trip from Singapore (where the cruise ends) to Tokyo and from Tokyo home. I still have plenty left for other travel. Even if I don't want to accumulate air miles any more, I'll switch to another form of Chase card. I really like the ability to monitor my account that they give me. -- From somewhere very deep in the heart of Texas |

Then, about 6 or 7 years ago, they raised the rate. I called them, and we agreed that I would cut up the card, and could pay off the balance at 5.99%, as long as I made at least the minimum payments every month. Before the end of the day, I'd gotten an HSBC GM Rewards card at 6.99, and that ended up knocking $1,000 off the price of the Chevy I bought a few years ago. The interest rate really doesn't matter anymore though, because we pay it off every month. Since I doubt that I will ever again buy another GM car, I really should get a better rewards card, like Amtrak. > --Bryan |

I have all my monthly charges on auto pay. Either to a credit card or to a bank account. I've just learned that Medicare Part B will only auto pay to a bank account. I get maximum float, For the pittance a checking acct is paying now, it's hardly worth letting the cc bl ride until the due date. IOW, what's a months interest on, say, a couple of thousand dollars? My checking account is right now paying a quarter of a percent. Ha. I'd still rather order that payment myself, rather that take a chance on an overbilling getting paid by autopay. I assume that you do scrutinize that CC account for errors. |

Of course I check. There is NO downside to Auto Pay. If you call in advance of the pay date, they change the pay amount. If you call afterwards, you get a credit towards the next payment. It is quite nice having NO monthly bills to pay. I have quarterly real estate taxes to pay. And now quarterly Medicare. And all annual ones. Don. www.donwiss.com (e-mail link at home page bottom). |

If you make more than that you are hit with huge fees. I learned this the hard way. I thought my car payments were set up for automatic with my husband's bank. Nope. And he then refused to pay so I had to. I didn't have enough money in checking so I paid it from savings. I was hit with two fees. One for the payment and one for the $5.95 charge that Ford credit hit me with just for making the payment! Most people won't ever have to pay this because most people are not stupid enough to put their direct deposit into savings. My money does go into checking. Husband's does not. Autopayments do not count. Our mortgage is an autopayment. |
