There's a recipe in "White Trash Cooking," page 104, that's puzzling.
"Never Fail Chocolate Pie." 4 eggs, separated 1 cup sweet milk 6 tbs. cocoa 1 tb. vanilla 1/2 cup oleo 1.5 cups white sugar 3 tbs. flour Pinch of salt An unbaked pie shell What's confusing is, it says to mix in the egg yolks, but there's no mention of using the egg whites later. Why didn't they just say "4 egg yolks"? Is there any reason NOT to, say, beat the egg whites till stiff, then fold them in at some point? (It says that after it's baked and cooled, you cover it with "Reddi Whip" - whipped cream, I assume.) Lenona. |
