Agree that "homeland" sounds too much like "fatherland". I don't
think government workers buy into it (unless they come from Rush
Limbaugh country). It's the "wingers" on the Right who perpetrate
stupid sh*t like that.

The latest is some general (probably retired) who says Ebola could
mutate and become an airborne virus. He has no medical background,
he's just another crackpot. Not saying that they could find somebody
with a degree in science to say that... look at the "scientists" who
agree that the earth is only 6000 years old and humans walked with
dinosaurs.

Franky, I find the use of mercenaries a little scary. Private security
companies like Blackwater are doing a lot of work for the government.
That is not unlike the situation in some trouble spots in the world
where the warlords have their own private armies.

Here we go (again) with the political crap. What the hell does any of
this have to do with Dave's Canadian Thanksgiving?! People really
should stop bleeding it into every *food related* thread on rfc. You
want to talk politics? Find another newsgroup. I'm sure there are
plenty out there.

Way to kill the spontaneity. People say move to another group,
but that never happens. And really, this is thread drift which
is a natural part of conversations at the table. This isn't a
lecture hall. It's a motley group of persons with varying
interests one of which happens to be food. Chill.

It's pretty easy to spot when a thread has drifted and to ignore it if
you're not interested. I do it all the time.

Yup. I've filtered out "cat", but that doesn't stop thread drift.

Most of those are marked OT and I can (as can you) certainly skip over
them. Arguing about international and Canadian vs. US politics on RFC
is stupid. Nothing is to be gained. Want to talk politics? Start a
new thread so I can easily skip over it rather than read a post in hops
of finding a mention of FOOD. This one started about a Canadian turkey
dinner. It rapidly devolved into who the hell knows what the ****
anyone is talking about.

It's called thread drift and it happens. I skipped over a huge chunk of

Easy enough to skip over just as the pictures of Sheldon's trees.
Somehow those posts don't turn into political discussions. Thread drift
is certainly to be expected. But there are certain players here who
*always* manage to turn it to politics rather than sticking to "we're
having roast turkey with bread stuffing". Go figure, it's got to be the
fault of someone the turkey can't be had with stuffing therefore it must
be the Republicans. Good lord. Enough already.
