No excuse for parents not to give kids a decent breakfast. We always had a good home made breakfast, but none took 30 minutes to cook. Two days I make my own breakfast during the week at 5:30. On weekends I make extra bacon or sausage and put it in the freezer for future use. In the morning, it takes 30 seconds in the microwave, peel an egg hard boiled previously and a piece of toast. Decent meal in about five minutes or less. The other two days I have breakfast at work with one of my colleagues. Tuesdays is Ray's Onion Bagels, Thursday is a sandwich from either McD or Panera Bread. |

Don't know how long it will last since it was going on last year too, or if it's available for all of CA, but it is here. Cheri |

Not sure if they can buy if they want to. But it is free to low income. |

I really don't think it is too much to expect people to give their kids a proper meal before sending them off to school. In many cases it may been having to get up off their lazy asses to prepare the meals, or to divert money from their cigarette and booze budget to buy food. |

I wasn't aware that you were paying the taxes in CA. but I'd just as soon see ALL kids get a free breakfast and if YOUR kid is getting a free breakfast too, you're not paying extra for something you're not receiving. But the parent isn't the kid having the breakfast. I don't find it hard to support every kid having something before starting school. Here High School starts with the first class bell at 7:15. The kids that avail themselves of breakfast are there by 6:45. They have to get up and going pretty early for that. Cheri |

There are lots of the latter. My nephew's ex wife is one of them. She's sleep all day if could get away with it. When they were together it was my nephew who got her daughter's breakfast, made her lunch and got her to school. They split up a while ago so I wonder how the poor kid is coping. It's nice that there are caring people who are think it is important that they kids get a proper breakfast. I don't like the idea of adding this to something that taxpayers get stuck footing the bill for. There are lots of charities around, and people are free to start one. If people see a need for a breakfast program in their school they should start a parent volunteer program to fund raise and to do the work. |

And so the kid should suffer? If the parent is too lazy for that, then the kid is probably lacking in other ways. I'd rather not see the kid suffer. |

The National School Lunch Act was passed as a measure of national
security. http://www.fns.usda.gov/nslp/history_5 We all benefit from a healthy, educated society. Educated kids can grow up to be employees, employers, tax payers, and contributing members of their community. Tara |
